Need Advice, External HDD.

Ok so my mate broke my 500GB external and will now be buying me a new one of around the same price as my 500GB, which was R1700.00.

And I've come across these 2,

Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 - 1TB HDD 32MB Cache - SATA 2 - 3.0GB/s

Vantec Nexstar-cx nst-300s2 Aluminum 3.5 inch HDD Enclosure - Black

So I want to know, will they be compatible. I'm not sure about the HDD being a SATA 2 and the enclosure a SATA.

(I don't want a white enclosure, not liking the dust staining it.

Should be fine, at most you should just have to use a jumper on the HDD to set it to SATA150 mode. I haven't heard of any HDDs not working in any enclosures.

Going on the price and picture I'd say yes it is 3.5", confirm with them before you order.

Don't see a problem with either product really.

Why not get 2 500GB 2.5" drives from Hi Fi Corporation for R899 each? Costs you the same and get you two and no power brick, works only off USB...

Cost isn't quite the same. 2x R899, or R899 + R223.

Oh, i see i missed the 1TB part lol

But anyway, I still don't like desktop drives for mobile use because of the power brick issue.
