Hey peeps..

i need to help some old people on a farm to get their internet going.

I want to get a 3g router that is network unlocked and that has got support for an external antenna - hauwei B960/B970?

which router would you guys recommend?

Is there a retialer that can offer a neutral firmware unit?

Go with the B970. It has support for external antenna and you can attach an anlogue phone to it (so get a cordless and you can make your cell calls over your cell provider). I am not sure if anyone is offering the unbranded models in SA, but I can't see why a Vodafone router will not take a MTN SIM.

I live on a farm and i'm running a B970 with a poynting high gain antenna and here are my results

my signal without the antenna was near nothing.

Contact OCLEROUX if you want a B970, he delivered it for me to my brother in laws business. Most hasel free transaction i've ever done. Great service.

He has a vodacom shop ,i think, so he'll be able to get you a contract too if you're looking for one.

Hi

I would suggest that you 1st test the network in the area with your 3G connection before buying a router you mentioning people .

So i take it there are going to be 2 or 3 people using it which might slow it down if its a GPRS only area.

Hi...I have done prior tests there.

no 3g+ on voda & mtn there.
edge on voda , none on mtn.
both obviously have gprs.

Edge is fine for the people , they only want to do email & banking.

The OPTION Globetrotter II that PoyntingDirect stock is better priced than the B970 (what Vodacom sells it for), with the same functionality - it has an additional nifty feature - the LCD screen indicates if there was any missed calls. You can also plug in a cordless phone as with the B970. The OPTION connector allows for an external Edge/3G antenna and is WiFi enabled. Have a look on the website
