I'm on a tight budget here, and I need some approval on a future build. I cannot go over 700 dollars, even if shipping and handeling rise it over 720, I need to cut back on something.

I plan on getting..

Q6600 processor - $280
2 gigs of DDR2 - $50
Geforce 8800GT - $250
650i SLI Mobo - $106

Now with buy.com's free shipping, everything equates to a very close 680 - 695 dollars.

Now my only problem is, I don't know if I can use my previous tower and psu, this is only assuming I can still use my HDD with an XP Home partition on it.

The tower was for a pre-build PC. Its pretty small and it only has ONE fan. I believe its only 80mm. I had to actually buy a Zalman for my 6800 so the idle temp would stay below 56c. The PSU is 430w, and it meets the GT's 400w requirment. However, I don't know if that combined with the Q6600 will work. I plan on getting a PSU, Tower, Hard drive, etc later on.

So any input would be greatly appreciated as I want to start ordering parts soon. Also, if you can actaully slim down the price somehow, that'd be even better. Thanks.

Its difficult to "slim" down on the price as we aren't familiar with international prices. What case do you have? Dimensions? You will need more fans(preferably 120mm) to cool your case as both the q6600 and 8800gt run hot. What make is the PSU?

Your specs look cool. Be careful that your current PSU also has all the power connectors (6pins/8pins) for your GPU and mobo. What sort of RAM will you be getting (latency/voltage) etc.? Make sure this is all compatible with your mobo as well. Regarding your current HDD and XP partition, your OS might give you crap when it sees all the new toys. Maybe a move to XP pro SP2 will be a good bet considering the toys you want to buy. XP home won't show you what your toys can really do. I'll also PM you some other info so as not to overload this post.

Newegg:

Q6600: $279.99 - Free 3 day shipping

DDr2 2GB RAM : $49.99 - Free 3 day shipping

You can try finding the other 2 items with free shipping on Newegg or check ZipZoomFly..

Very nice specs, but as Zenbaas said, it's difficult for us to compare international prices to local prices...

I usually don't recommend changing a Windows XP installation between different hardware (except small hardware changes, of course) as I have always had problems with it... A fresh install of Windows XP and the installation of the drivers for your new motherboard would be my recommendation... :)

Jook, I'm not sure if you're in the States. If you are, ignore the following comment....

If I'm not mistaken, under the fine print section of the Free Shipping explanation on Buy.Com, it states the following...

FREE Budget Shipping is not available for International orders or shipments to Alaska and Hawaii

Fine print usually sucks.
