I am running win xp pro on a work laptop (not my choice), and need a fast way of searching my desktop. The windows index service does no seem to work; is there a free 3rd party desktop search program that anyone can recommend?

thx

Hey Hey

I use Everything... and after its initial database update / index it is instant when searching for things...

•Small installation file
•Clean and simple user interface
•Quick file indexing
•Quick searching
•Minimal resource usage
•Share files with others easily
•Real-time updating

for Windows 2000, XP, 2003, Vista, 2008 and Windows 7

Ok I just checked it out - it does not search file content so its not gonna work for me.

Any other suggestions?

Maybe this ...

http://docfetcher.sourceforge.net/en/index.html

DocFetcher is an Open Source desktop search application: It allows you to search the contents of files on your computer. — You can think of it as Google for your local files. The application runs on Windows, Linux and Mac OS X, and is made available under the Eclipse Public License.

and

Outlook PST files: DocFetcher allows searching for Outlook emails, which Microsoft Outlook typically stores in PST files.
