Hey.
I'm just finishing up on my new site and would appreciate some feedback.
The purpose of the site is to advertise me as a WP7 developer for hire.

http://roguecode.co.za/new/

Thanks! :)

p.s. I know the blog link is broken.

There's nothing really wrong with the site, but the dark colours and busy header just don't do it for me personally. I'd recommend a light palette with a clean, simple header.

Seeing as you're a WP7 dev, perhaps a more Metro UI look and feel on the site - I'm talking about your links that are down the side. They look out of place. I'm thinking of the Zune interface - sideways scrolling with top nav links.. you know what I mean.

I'm not a big fan of the red on black either, but that's preference. It's difficult to see.

I like the phone effect. Nicely done.

Thanks guys.
I understand that the darkness is quite overpowering. Instead of changing to a light theme, I would prefer to make the dark one work.
@FarlinOpptreden You're totally right, the top is very busy. I will see what I can change to make it look better.
@Raithlin I have changed links to be a grey-ish color which seems to work better than the red. Also I have made the top tag-line thing have white instead of red. Yep, those links have been bothering me, will work on it.

First one - the darker text on lighter background is easier to read. Just a question though - by promoting yourself as a WP7 developer, shouldn't you immediately attract your audience by using a similar colour scheme, like the vibrant green or blue on a black background? Especially the Windows logo at the top. Somehow the red doesn't ring "Windows".

EDIT: The header is still a bit busy for my liking. I know you're capable of producing something clean and simplistic. ;)

I've just uploaded the new site, styled like the first option - which I also like the best.
I haven't touched the header yet though, still trying to figure that one out :P
Actually, with the new Mango update that is coming out, that red(along with that logo) is the official color.

logo should be top left from a visual heirarchy pov.
use a simpler more readable logo font, kill the gradient in the background and source - they add no value.
if you have to use a tagline, use a plan sans font, the pixel font is already difficult to read. i'd drop the tagline or rather use "windows phone development".
"looking for my blog" should be at the bottom somewhere.
kill the "i build" and rather incorporate it into the tagline.
add a contact widget on the right rather and replace the "share" block. (you can put social icons out of the way elsewhere)
change your rhs widget titles to fonts (segoe) and mark up as h2/3 for seo.
add webkit / mozilla scrollbars to the phone ui.

Thanks for the feedback!
I am probably going to remove the entire top bar and just have 'RogueCode' written plainly in segoe.
The reason the share box is there is to fill up the space. I dont want a contact form. I really hate getting to a site and you cant just click their email. I have a contact form on my blog, and only decided against it afterwards.

Good idea about the seo. I made them images because I presumed not many people would have 'segoe ui' - is that not the case?

Just looked up the scroll bars. Thats really cool, I had no idea.

I am not a webdev at all, I try stay away from it actually, thats why I don't know some simple things :-/

Looks cool. On Chrome the BizSpark logo is partly hidden behind the phone div/image

Thanks for the headsup!

Actually, it looks to me like that may be your screensize (all browsers). What resolution are you?

MUCH better than the original site! Well done Matt!

EDIT: Now if you could only theme your blog the same way as well...

Thank you :)
The community here really helps alot - always good to get a second eye on something!

Yip, definitely going to as soon as I get a chance!

Good site Matt simple but user friendly. Your header should be a bit low and centered also I would suggest that you should also put some informative write up about the site your are promoting or the company or something about the phone. Something that is interesting to read.
