Budget of around R750, over-ear or in-ear and needs to be a good all rounder.

Suggestions? (and places to get them from)

Dankie

Got myself Sennheiser HD202s from Audio Warehouse, but they're stocked in most places (Game, Musica).

Absolutely love them. They're pretty entry level, but you could find something more up the range.

Sorry I couldn't post links. On mobile.

If you're buying Sens try to grab them from Dion wired if the pricing is equal..they're auth resellers...so if something goes wrong the exchange process would presumably suck less. (Also make a digital copy of all Dion invoice - a chilled sales lady reckoned the invoice ink fades)

Don't like the 2** series to be honest. And not a big fan of the Sens with microphones...ended up buying a corsair headset for gaming.

Decide if you need a mic - if yes, stay clear of sens if not then yeah sens.

I had/have 419s - good buy. ( http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthr...nding-much?p=12109487&viewfull=1#post12109487 )

Still cringe on all headphone discussions tbh - had a chance to buy Beyersdynamics 770s () at steal pricing (like 40% of fair market price). Bought a single one for my sister, but decided to not get one for myself. Fck!!! 1k+ ZAR down the drain due to bad judgement call.

Have a pair of Corsair 2100's for gaming, need this for music and such.

Reviews of the HD439's are good but most complain of bad build quality :<

What's wrong with Sennheisser cans with a mic? I have the Game Zero paired with a Soundblaster ZX and music, movies and gaming blows my little mind. Love them.

Unkess you are referring to more budget entry ones that I am not aware of? Think the Game One is the lowest they have.

I use Samson SR 850 studio headphones. I have yet to find a headset that can bring more detail out of a music track. Open-back design does mean others can hear what you are listening to though.

No built-in mic, so I use a separate one when gaming. Explosions will never sound as good on this compared to a dedicated gaming headset of course. But for music and movies I definitely prefer the SR 850.

Talking about Sennheiser HD202, Makro Woodmead had them for R389 last week...

Great all-round headphones. You can sometimes get them on Takealot (stock comes and goes), otherwise you can find them at a higher price at Soundz.co.za (where I got mine) and probably a few other places. Other than being semi-open, the only possible downside is the synthetic leather cups. If you don't like them, then you can get AKG 240 velvet/velour cups on ebay that supposedly fit. I should probably get some.

Bought the Philips Shl3300 Dj Headphone from Kalahari for about R240. Same thing sells for R500 at Dion Wired. Music clarity is great and bass is deep. Moving up higher I would skip the Sen's and move up to JBL Sync 300 as those have built-in amplifier.

Sorry but I could never go back to on-ear headphones after owning a few Sennheiser models with velour ear cups, which surround the ears. No better headphones/design for comfort and long use, IMO.

Yeah the "leather" pads can get hot and sweaty after a while.

On the after-sales support point, Sennheiser have an office in Milpark, Jhb. I lost the one rubber piece for my 5 year old CX300ii in-ear headphones and they sourced me some replacements.

Can vouch for the Sennheiser HD 429's in terms of sound quality and comfort over extended periods. Sound reproduction is very clear and the bass is not over-driven which irritates me about some headphones. If you're a basshead, ymmv.
