Need Headphones!

Bought the Philips Shl3300 Dj Headphone from Kalahari for about R240. Same thing sells for R500 at Dion Wired. Music clarity is great and bass is deep. Moving up higher I would skip the Sen's and move up to JBL Sync 300 as those have built-in amplifier.

You could have gotten 10% off the takealot price at Dion wired if you'd shown them the link.

I'm seconding the guy who said go for Sennheiser HD202 phones ... I'm on my second set, and I bought for myself and my wife this time around. If you watch Takealot for a while you'll get them on special for like R400, which is a steal for solid build quality and reasonable bass. Honestly you'll be paying three times as much to start doing better, and then it's shaving hairs.

Got myself Sennheiser HD202s from Audio Warehouse, but they're stocked in most places (Game, Musica).

Absolutely love them. They're pretty entry level, but you could find something more up the range.

Sorry I couldn't post links. On mobile.

I found 202's extraordinarily uncomfortable.

This may be due to having an unusually large head though.

Um, wide or tall? :P If it's tall, the 202s do have height adjustment on the earphones, and they fit my massive noggin ok with the phones extended all the way. Looking at the width, however, I can see that they might not fit all sizes, but then I reckon that'd be a complaint with any typical mid-size set of earphones.

Don't HD 202s sit on the ears, and not around them?

There are 2 versions...the 202's I tried were on-ear, not over (also over-driven at low frequencies in my opinion but that's a different story). Dunno about the 202ii or whatever the second version is called.

not really, more like 80% inside and 20% touching. I would however prefer larger cups though...

In my mind being on ear is what leads to discomfort. Around ear is the most comfortable. Don't know if headbands can be uncomfortable, perhaps only if they're too tight.

I remember my HS 595s, literally couldn't tell I was wearing them. Far comfier than my HD 650s.

They're definitely over-ear, not on ear.

I use Samson SR 850 studio headphones. I have yet to find a headset that can bring more detail out of a music track. Open-back design does mean others can hear what you are listening to though.

No built-in mic, so I use a separate one when gaming. Explosions will never sound as good on this compared to a dedicated gaming headset of course. But for music and movies I definitely prefer the SR 850.

I've got these headphones too. They are freaking awesome! Got them almost a year ago for just over R400 from takealot. They seem to usually be below R500.00. At that price, the quality is astounding. They do lack bass but it isn't a real problem unless you're an absolute bass-head. Vocals sound super crisp. For their price I don't any of the competition is even close to the sound you get from these headphones.
