Need Help choosing PC upgrade!!pls help...

Hi everyone,

This is my current Pc;
Intel P4 Ht 3.0Hgz
Asus P5S-MX SE mobo
A-data DDR2 667mhz 1gb Ram
XFX Geforce 7600GT graphics card

I need Help to upgrade my Pc, I got R2000 to spend and im not 100% sure on what to get.
I was thinking on getting,
A Core 2 Duo E4500 processor= R1178
A-data DDR2 667mhz ram 1gb = R 299
CoolerMaster HyperTX cooler = R 279(Mayb a lil overclocking)
And jus keep the rest for a game or sumting? wat u think

If you want to overclock on a budget, go for the Core 2 Duo e6300. Costs around R1,100 (I think?), and you can overclock up to 75% (I got mine up from 1.86Ghz to 3.22Ghz using nothing but a R400 Zalman CPU fan). The card is pretty decent so I wouldn't worry too much for now, though you will need to upgrade it soonish.

Ya, i was goin to go for the E6300 at first...The only problame is that im nt to sure about my motherboard if it can overclock or not on it cuz i cant Oc my P4 at the moment...But the P4 is a OEM processor, i took it out an old Mustek computer.Do you think i wil be able to OC the E6300?

You should be able to overclock the E6300 without any problems.

you can no longer buy e6300 or its replacement the e6320

none of my suppliers stock it anymore

Also, you can get a 2GB stick of DDR2 800 RAM nowadays for R400. Might be a better route to go, and allow further upgrades in future.

Yes, higher frequency RAM will underclock itself automatically

So then I should go for an E6300, a 2gig stick of DDR2 800 ram, and a coolermaster hypertx...One problame tho, I got ddr2 667 and if i put ddr2 800 wnt i nt wnt or somthing?

it will work just at 667 and not 800

Then. I don’t think those type of MB`s is really a good idea to OC. The bios is not optimized for real OC`s. The e4500 will get you to 3ghz with good air cooling. I will also rather go for the Zalman.

This is the last 1066 cpu I can find at the moment.

I think for your moneys worth, go for the E4500. Will give you more bang for your buck when you can get it to OC.

Go check it out. Gives you the CPU support for your MB. It doesn’t seem to me that it supports the E6320, but it does support the E4500.

As far as I know the E6320 has 4MB shared L2 cache and the E6300 only 2MB

Cant find the E6300 anymore. Hasn’t been available for quite some time

I have tried to OC my P4 3.0 HT before but there are just no settings in the BIOS for me to OC?
It might be because its and OEM processor from another computer, i heard that those processors are locked and therefor cannot be overclockedMayb i shud look into another mobo and an E2160 and then OC to 3.2 GHZ?

E2160 is a good choice. Someone at SystemShock was selling one for a crazy price, if you don't mind second hand...
