Hey guys

I want to find out quite a few things but first let me lay out my problem. I currently have a Telkom phone line. I currently use 3G to connect to the internet with a plan from cell c. That will soon be expiring therefore I would like to get ADSL with a wifi modem. Forgive me if I am say obvious things or leave out important info. I am fairly knowlegable in tech but ADSL is something I am completely new to.

I would like to do some video streaming, connect at most 4 phones via wifi and probably a little downloading. ADSL would be the best internet connection option right? If so i think a capped plan with about 40gb of data a month should be more than sufficient.

Okay so keeping in mind that I only have the Telkom phone line, what else would I need for the ADSL line including hardware and which of these things would I only be able to get from Telkom? Line speed?
Which ISP would be the best, considering reliabilty and speed of connection are priorities? Also what deals would be best? I would also like to keep the price as cheap as possible.

Any other issues I should consider?

Start off with a Telkom Simple plan

Telkom Simple
Fast 2 Mbps broadband
5 GB surfing per month + 5GB additional promotional data*
Free Night Surfer data between 12 a.m. & 6 a.m.*
Telkom Landline rental
Free evening and weekend Telkom to Telkom landline calls. Up to an hour per call. *Terms and Conditions apply
Free landline and ADSL installation (New customers only)
Free Prepaid Internet Starter Pack (3G USB modem and 200MB recurring Telkom mobile data for 12 months)
Free WiFi modem

Then get a capped account from anyone: Web Africa, Mweb, Afrihost or Telkom

Web Africa: 40GB data (R149) + 40GB Download Plus (Free) = R149 per month

how much is telkom simple?

according to the telkom website that plan is over R400. Anything cheaper?

ahhh thank u for the clarification grandmaster isie!

If you take the Telkom Simple @ R400 + the WebAfrica @R149 for 40 gigs your total is R549

Whereas if you just take the Do Uncapped Basic Bundle you get 2Mb and uncapped data for R521 (includes line rental)
Its cheaper and there's no worry abput exceeding your cap :D

landline rental and adsl line from telkom. Are there any other things i can only get from telkom?

Telkom simple is a good idea for a noob. But take the uncapped option.

can someone tell me more about the actual download speed after u hit the softcap? I am definitely considering the telkom simple plan

+1 - Telkom Simple (Make sure no contract) first and then go more advanced :)

I will always recommend Afrihost (as they have always been the best ISP for me), however you can go with many ISP's these days. Just check their feedback threads for issues first :) Ive actually moved back to a capped account recently as it is unshaped, so after you get a general idea of your usage, you can always go down to capped.
