Need help Linux Mint 8

Software Sources for Linux Mint 8?

How do you change the Ubuntu repositories inside Linux Mint's software sources to local ones, if possible?

Also, is there any local repositories for Linux Mint's updates?

sudo apt-get update
gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
uncomment the "uct.ac.za" line.
comment the previous one that was uncommented.

Sorry, but this doesn't work. The sources list inside Linux Mint look as follows:

deb cdrom:[Linux Mint 8 _Helena_ x64 - Release amd64 (20091202)]/ karmic main restricted
deb http://packages.linuxmint.com/ helena main upstream import
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ karmic main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ karmic-updates main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ karmic-security main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu/ karmic partner
deb http://packages.medibuntu.org/ karmic free non-free

As you can see it uses the Linux Mint repositories for mint updates, and ubuntu's for everything else.

Sorry about that.
Replace http://archive.ubuntu.com with http://za.archive.ubuntu.com

Have a look at:
ftp://ftp.is.co.za/mirror/linuxmint.com/stable/8/

Also look at:
[menu]system>administration>software sources
The "Download from" button
You should be able to select one of the many available from there.
If you go into "other" in that menu, the za servers should be listed and selectable.

Thanks, I was thinking the same thing (just changing the arch.. to za.arch..)

There is no South African servers in the list, just other countries.

I did download my copy of Linux Mint 8 local.

Ok, I am basically bumping up my own thread again.

So, I have just installed Linux Mint 9, which is awesome by the way.
I have changed the Ubuntu repositories to local ones, now the only thing that I still need to change, if possible, is the Mint repos to a local one.
Is there any local mirrors for the Mint(not ubuntu's) repos. If there is, how do I change to it...

Mint does not have local repos, http://www.linuxmint.com/mirrors.php scroll to bottom to see list of Mint repos. Use one of the European ones.

Contact the admins of local mirrors like universities etc.

Start with these guys http://www.tenet.ac.za/contact If you look to the right you will see a link to sites they mirror.

IS now mirrors the repositories of Linux Mint: ftp://ftp.is.co.za/mirrors/linuxmint.com/packages

Got no reply from Tenet so far (emailed them a few months ago and again today), but IS put it online in a matter of hours. Good job IS.
