I recently bought a Mecer Bravo 750gig external hd at Game.
Man its giving me no joy..the connection always fails in the middle of whatever i'm copying and reports a hardware failure.. Can i get drivers for it & where since it did not come with any. I'm using a USB 2.0 connection

No drivers will help, XP SP2+ has the USB driver built in. Have you tried running scandisk on the drive? It sounds like a hardware problem....

Try use a different usb port. I have the same drive and love it. I've had it for 3months and with heavy use i haven't had any problems with it what so ever.

I'd still actually recommend it to anyone.

Btw I use the usb and esata connections both without issues.

I've tried all 6 ports on my machine & still the same thing. Sometimes the connection will jst fail with 20 sec. from completion. I think after i've tried running scan disk on the thing i'll jst take it back to Game..coz i cant back up anything...

I suspect that your USB ports are not supplying sufficient current to power the USB. If the drive has an external power option you need to use it, otherwise purchase a powered USB hub and plug it in there.

Most of these external hdd's bought from Game/Makro are partitioned using FAT/FAT32.

While this is great for connecting to your TV/DVD player to view DivX/AVI movies, it does limit the size of individual file transfers.

Have you tried to format with a NTFS partition yet?

+1 for using a powered hub - depending on your PSU and mobo power, you may get the device drawing more than can be supplied by the USB alone.
