I bought Patriot 4GB RAM from Takealot(will quote serial no. later when I'm off from work). Then I put it in, but the laptop screen made funny lines etc.

I wasn't able to find a list of compatible RAM for the laptop, and believe me I searched, but it's not a fancy or new one, so the RAM might be too new for it - that is my hope anyway.

Thus, I would like to find out whether it's just a compatibility issue, or whether I got the RAM fooked straight out of the box. The dilemma is, I don't have an extra laptop to test it with. Is there any way I can find out?

When you look at the old RAM in the laptop does it state whether it is DDR3 or DDR2 and the frequency such as 1333mhz?

Yeah it's exactly the same type of RAM in terms of frequency and type - this is what I used to find a supposedly correct module. But I had to hit and hope that it is a supported module in terms of make and model, since I wasn't able to find a compatibility list for the laptop, in terms of memory.

With desktops it's pretty easy, since the mobo vendor always lists the supported modules.

So I basically need a way to test it, and if it works, sell it.

Do you have the RAM setup with eg "2 x 4GB modules" or is it a situation where you have a (example) "2GB module and a 4GB Module"?

What is the Maximum MOB RAM capacity?

Branded ram modules like Kingston,Corsair, Samsung, Micron usually work in most devices...compatability is there.
Lesser know like Hynix, your Patriot, etc seem more designed for Chinese / Far East manufactured motherboards....and they do work well there.
Rather spend a bit more and get the first ones mentioned - less likely to run into problems and some even offer life time warranty, depends where you buy them.

Not sure what the capacity is.

It has 1x2GB at the moment, but I tried it alone with the 4GB, since my intention is to use it alone. Never mix types of RAM, or even sizes - if anything, it will only be detrimental to performance.

I've had many Patriot modules for desktop PC's - no issues whatsoever, and they last well. I'd almost rate them in the same category as Kingston. Hynix is ***, I agree.

Laptop model number and answering question from the first reply would help.
Post what is written on the sticker (or photo) - the old module and the new one.
