Tablets don't really do anything else except what you have listed.

Google has announced the new Nexus 7 2 which will be available pretty soon. If you don't want to wait you can pick up the current Nexus 7. I think you can get it through FNB for something like R170 pm x 24.

Many thanks for the replies, I forgot to mention the screen must be at least 10" in size. I unfortunately can't wait and not an fnd client, where could one purchase the nexus 7? Is the nexus at a local store do they have a 10"?

A word of advice, if you have a phone with HSPA, rather go for a wifi tablet.

There's quite a large gap in price between 3g+wif and wifi-only tablets

Does that have 3g though?

Go check out vodacom or cellc. You can get a vodafone tablet 10" plus 2gb data for 349 a month i think. Great tablet but if my company would have allowed it, i would have gone with the cellc samsung offer rather.

A word of advice do not ever buy a tablet without 3g unless you don't plan on using it for 3g/4g etc.

No ways, pay the extra little bit and get 3G. The wifi hotspot on your phone will eat your battery and the effort to link (yes, there is an effort) becomes an irritation. I had a wifi tablet only and used it with a wifi hotspot or my phone and it drove me crazy. Upgraded to a 3G one and it is so much better.

Yup, we don't live in a first world country with wifi on every corner :D. 3g or don't buy the tablet.

The Xperia Tablet S is quite cheap now and pretty awesome.

It's 7 inches. That's why it's called the Nexus 7. There's also a Nexus 10 but that's a LOT more expensive. For reading a 7-inch is perfect as it's the same size as a Kindle or Nook. 10 inches are nice (I know, that's what she said, amirite?) The problem with the el cheapos like Sansui or Geeko etc is their screens are very poor so not really suited to what you want.

Esquire has the 7 for 3000 excl VAT so R3 420. The Nexus 10 is like R5400 excluding VAT.
