I'm trying to fix my brother's PC, but I can't understand what the BIOS is trying to tell me, and I can't find what this beeping means anywhere.

It turns on, and beeps after a second - that is the normal POST.
It then waits 3 seconds, beeps twice, then sits there doing nothing.

Asus M3A 78 motherboard.

Anyone have any ideas?

Sounds like a RAM issue.

If you have more than 1 RAM module, switch off power, remove 1 module and reboot. Repeat with other module (individually).

If tried that, same error with different RAM.

This is the weird bit - If I pull the video card out (to force mobo video out) it then gives a differnt error (according to manual)

1 long, 3 short ---> Memory test failure | A fault has been detected in memory above 64KB

But when I put the card back in, it gives theses

2 short -->Memory parity error | A memory parity error has occurred in the first 64K of RAM. The RAM IC is probably bad
and
2 short--->POST Failure| One of the hardware testa have failed

:wtf:

EDIT: Found online beepcodes for AMI BIOS http://www.bioscentral.com/beepcodes/amibeep.htm#

1 long, 3 short is no display error.

sounds like your ram is fried, try different ram from another machine, if that does not work I'd hazard a guess at the motherboard (but would try several other things as well).
