Need Help With Novatel Merlin U630

Hi guys,
I'm kinda new to the forum & was hoping 1 of you could help me with a few questions about the Novatel Merlin U630. I just got 1 of them from a friend...

Where can I download software for the card? {I dnt have the installation CD}
Whats the correct way to install?
Where can I download the latest firmware?

I was told that the card was giving him some trouble. He couldnt get it up & running. I'm not sure if it was due to him not installing it properly or if the card is faulty & I guess that the only way to see whats up is to install it & test it. I does pick up on the system when I insert it, But I havnt installed the drivers for it as yet as I read here that installing the drivers before installing the correct software would cause alot of headache.

Please help me...

Go Here for the latest Software and Firmware.

The Software you want to download is VMC version 9.3. And the Firmware is further down on the page under the U630 heading.

Not that I want to complicate things, but if you are still using XP you may actually find that the last of the more XP-specific versions of the software, also available on the site you were referred to, as Version 7.03, may work better; Version 9.x is said to be more Vista-friendly but some users find 7.03 more stable and easier to work with in XP.

And no, don't even ASK why there doesn't appear to be a Version 8.x!!

The generic Novatel software also mentioned in this thread will also do the job, but I find the Voda software prettier.... MTN also has its own 'Dashboard' software available for download, but the Vodafone Dashboard works happily with ALL South Africa's providers, right through to Cell C and Virgin, so no need to change software when you switch operators.

True, version 9.x is more Vista Friendly, and what you said there was what i used to with my customers. I loaded 7.03 for the XP customers, and 9.x for the Vista customers.

This was only when version 9.1 was available(which was buggy by the way). When 9.2 was realeased, it was great. Works flippin well on XP and Vista. And version 9.3 works even better.

Version 8 was specifically made for the embedded 3G cards, on laptops like the D620 which it came pre-insatlled with, if it was supplied by Vodacom.

I'v downloaded the drivers & installed them. Connected the card & installed the drivers {blue light blinks}. But when I try upgrade firmware I get an error:
Unable to upgrade modem, Firmware upgrade failed, get communications port error. :confused:

What do I do now?

I'm using XP so should I be downloading & using v7.03 soft?

Close the VMC Software, remove the SIM. Then do the upgrade.

Version 9.3 is ok to use on XP. Use it for a while and see if it works for you.
 
Software closed, No card inserted but I still get the same error.
Any other solution?
When I go to device manager, I see Standard PCMCIA Card Modem is assigned Com 12 & Standard PCMCIA Card Modem #2 is assigned to com 14....

Does the card work with the VMC Software?
 
Sorry for the late reply....
No it does not work with the software. The software is not picking up the card when I try to "add device"
Red & blue light blink ...
