Hi Guys,

I've just bought myself a new PC. I got the Core i7 2600k, Asus Maximus iv extreme mobo and 16GB (4x4GB) G.Skill Sniper DDR3 1600 Ram.

Can anybody please give me a tut on how to setup the RAM. I have done a few tweaks but I know that my system is capable of more.

The RAM currently runs at 1600Mhz and CPU at 4.6GHz per core. Temps are fine as I spent a good deal of money on cooling.
Up to where can I push my RAM. I was hoping I could get it to about 2000MHz.

Thanx in advance

Why would you overclock ram that is not specified to run at that speed? I'm pretty sure it voids the warranty and would cause it to fail pretty quickly.

Google 'overclocking' or related searchwords. I'm sure there are enough freaks in the net, bragging about their speeds.

But ... why? Why o why would anyone want to overclock a system with those already unbeatable specs? Rest in peace and enjoy the good feeling of having one of the fastest rigs around and use it for its purpose instead of pubertary pissing contests.

Your RAM is rated for 1600MHz, so I really won't try to push it to 1866MHz, because that is the next step that the Sandy Bridge would allow you to run it at.

You'll need to loosen the timings to 11-11-11-30 for this and give it a bit more voltage (around 1.6v).
However, the performance difference of that RAM at 1600 with 9-9-9-24 timings vs 2000 with 11-11-11-30 is only around 4-6% more, something you'll fail to see in everyday performance.

BTW, Andy @ Landmark Computers used to be a bit overclocker in SA a few years back and they sell G.Skill (did you buy from them?).
Call him for advice.

I bought most of the parts from evetech in Centurion. The guy there gave me a good price on everything. And as far as I know they are one of the only guys that sell the Noctua cooler that I wanted.
