I am looking for a decent 2.1 system to replace my current 5.1 which I only paid R280 2 years ago (). My main use will be more towards gaming and watching movies.

I had my eyes on the Logitech Z4 and Z2300, wonder which one will be more suitable for my use? I know Z2300 is THX certified, but it's not the same as the THX home theatre system....

I am also going to get a soundcard because not satisfied with the onboard RL889A, but maybe one step at a time.

Please proud owners of the above systems tell me what you think. Or maybe I should get some other brand or model perhaps?

Go for the Logitech Z-2300 - very nice budget speakers (R 1550), Nice clean sound considering the price:)

 Since when is R1.5K speakers are budget speakers now, I though R80 ones are 'budget' speakers.....

Dont like messy wires so 2.1 would be good enough.

Considering top of the range Logitech`s would set u back about R3400;)
and considering that it is THX, unless u want creative`s M2600 2.1 for R390. Or check out Labtech - the cheaper version of Logitech
I thought you were looking for "decent speakers"
R80 please - you must be talking about the little noise makers you get when u buy a "budget pc"

Too bad I didn't find any reference monitors with pricecheck for under R2k, everything is really over-priced here.

Will comeback tomorrow and see other people's replies.

Sorry if i got u a bit mad bru:o you asked what would be best suited for you and i gave you an answer in my opinion. Dont know why u got so offensive over what i consider to be budget? Maybe you should have specified how much u wanted to pay for it, but since you wanted to know about the logitech`s i just gave my 2c. Wont respond next time to questions you ask and dont want answered.

I've heard good things about the Z-2300s and Z4s here on MyBB.

You could also try the Creative I-Trigue 3600s, in the same price range as the Z4s.

Depends on your budget, really. If you have more than R800 to spend, then go for the Z-2300s.

The Razer Mako is also THX certified, and it boasts 100W RMS more than the Z2300.

:( Sorry but I think you mis-understood me. If I am not willing to pay the price, I would not even list it as one of the option in my original post. Indeed I appreciate everyone's help and opinion towards my question. I think it's just mis-understanding between people with more knowledge in Sound system (you) and ppl with little understanding (myself).

I am still happy with my 4.1 Cambridge Soundworks. Paid about R800, but not sure if they even still make them.

I've got the Logitech Z-2300s and I'm loving them, but I'm far FAR from an audiophile, so I wouldn't know. The only reason I got there speakers is that I got them second hand for R800, otherwise I was planning on getting the Creative I-Trigue 3400 set, or Logitech Z-3.

I'd say go for the Z-4, almost half the price I think. It won't be as loud and the sound probably won't be quite as good, but I'm damn sure I wouldn't be able to tell the difference, so ya...

Thanks. I was told by some of my friends, either get something better (reference speakers) or something really cheap, Z2300 is one of those in the middle.....

Are you running off onboard sound?

No. Mostly off my iPod at the moment, cus my speakers and PC are in two differet places - hostel and home.. But I'm hopefully gonna get an Audigy sound card soon and then use my PC with the speakers...

+1, but quite a bit more expensive... though they do have a MUCH better range and clarity than the z2300, even the z4's have a better range than the z2300 now that i think about it...

something to keep in mind, the z2300 only has a mid in each satelite, no tweeter, so you dont get as rich high's which leaves you with a system thats pretty bass heavy (which under certain circumstances is good, like if you listen to drum & bass etc) you can get the same effect though with a system with tweeters and just adjusting your equaliser settings by upping the bass and mids and dropping the highs whereas you cant really get clean highs if there arent any tweeters.

i have the altec lansing fx4021 system and love it to death. its around R1400 but unfortunately only 40rms. the range and clarity is however comparable to logitech's z5500...
