Hi guys, can't seem to access the router from the wireless side : Laptop has built in wireless, another pc is using Linksys WUSB54G usb adapter. Both can "see" the SSID, but can't connect to it. Wired access from both not a problem. Dropped wireless security on the router, same prob (normally running WPA-PSK)
DHCP enabled on the router and works fine for wired. ipconfig shows "media disconnected" on the wireless adapter. Runing latest linksys firmware on the router (3.03.6). Same channels (11) on all from what I can see

Tried both WZC and the Linksys connection manager. The latter says "can't associate with access point" or something like that
 
Uninstall the Linksys utility and only use the Windows util. See if it helps. They dont work well together.
 
It gets installed with the drivers, so no uninstall just for the utility. Have disabled it, using the Win util. A note : the laptop has nothing Linksys related on it and it also can see the SSID, but not connect. As prev asked/said, where does the wireless pc get its IP from ?
After reboot, both adapters, nic(unplugged) & wireless show as Media disconnected in ipconfig. Sureley the wireless should get an ip from the router ?

Also changed everthing to static IP. Killed all pc, reboot router, then pc. Wireless pc still fails to display an IP in ipconfig. Since I've never done wlan before, I'm not sure about this. Doesn't feel right though :(

Ok, if you set router to DHCP, and then plug in one utp pport in the back of the router....reboot pc, and see what IP get's assigned to the pc via DHCP...should be 192.168.1.*? Router should then be 192.168.1.1

If so, use html to get into router, http://192.168.1.1 and take a lookie at your settings, especiallly basic settings, 1st page, and see that your ip is set to 192.168.1.1, and dhcp server is set to enabled....and dhcp set to automatic-the 1st block under basic settings....

Easiest would be of course to assign static IP to wireless pc, eg 192.168.1.3, if router is 192.168.1.1, and make the subnet a class C - 255.255.255.0.

Try to ping from PC with wireless lan card, you can also do arp -d on the pc, and then ping again. If you can see the router, remove static IP, set to DHCP, and do arp -d again.

Give a few seconds, and ping 192.168.1.1 or whatever is the router ip address.

If not, do ipconfig /all and see if DHCP assigned an IP to wireless pc.

Let me know what you find.

As per my previous post, I have assigned static IP to the wireless pc (192.168.1.40), but it's not reflected in ipconfig. Just shows as "Media disconnected". Ping to 192.168.1.40 doesn't even work. Can't get the wireless to accept an IP :( DHCP works fine on the wired pc's, even if I wire the wireless one :)

Then sounds to me the improper driver is loaded for your wifi card, or no driver loaded at all? Even in WinXP I find with mmy D-Link card I need to load the driver.....
 
Just set your ip on the pc lower for now, there is a setting which limits the highest IP that can join.....set it to .4 for example.....

The problem is that your wireless lancard is noot accepting an ipconfig, which is evident when you do ipconfig /all...... :( nothing reflected....can you do the command and make a screendump, and send it to me?

Luke,
You should have a wireless icon on the taskbar, righthand side next to the clock somewhere. Click on that, there should be a "connect" radio button....click on that, willl take a few seconds....20-30 or so...to connect to router....

From the Linksys icon:
Link information says "Cannot associate with the access point". The signal strength and link quality bars is empty
Site survey shows the SSID, Channel 11 and Signal @ 90-100. Wireless mode infrastructure and security PSK
Also shows the WUSB54G adapter as active

Connect just goes back to Link Info screen, showing the "Can't associate" message
 
Your Linksys is external : yes then you access it via IE using the 192.168.0.1 and that should bring a menu for config settings .Just realized you are using USB .
 
I had this problem on a Laptop before. Had a WRT54G with Revision 2.2 Hardware AP and an LG 802.11b WLAN card (Yes I know :p).
Give this a try....

Disable the Ethernet Connection on you Wired LAN Port.
Easiest way is to right click on the Wired LAN Icon (Ethernet) and click disable.
I couldn't have the Ethernet and Wireless LAN running at the same time. Even if the Ethernet (LAN) port had nothing plugged into it. I think that will solve your problem.
 
Crash, I'm glad it solved your prob. Doesn't do anything for mine though. I'm still open to suggestions....shouldn't be this difficult, either I'm screwing up somewhere or the router is able to broadcast SSID but not accept connections
