You wont ever find local help numbers for problems all go through call centers . 2hours hold to report a faulty Jack spoke to sombody in springs .Put the phone down and less than an hour later tecnition was there to Fix it .

get to a local Telkom customer service branch, request the agent to submit an escalation for SIO failure if AND only if you were informed DSL exchange work is completed and your modem's DSL LED does not come on. NB the line cord can bypass PSU (surge protector) and plug to wall socket, telephone line cord must have a filter in line. Default for Telkom Supplied modem, DSL and Internet/PPP led must be on before proceeding with verification process (Telkom.co.za/verifyadsl), thereafter change ISP username/password to yours.

No need for technician visit. If DSL is on, check if Internet/PPP LEd is on (Mega100/5wr Led is green), proceed with verification at Http://www.telkom.co.za/verifyadsl, u require order number and telephone number, wait a few minutes and ur DSLAM port status will be active. Change modem's ISp username/password (default is guest@telkomadsl/guest) otherwise u cannot surf any other site but Telkom.co.za. The system will complete order as SIO, Telkom will call u to confirm and check Ip activity for port in exchange for completion.

No point in calling Regional Customer Care Manager by calling FreeCall 080 060 0126 as they discontinued the service, they only accept Emails/faxes.

I sent them a mail to the above address and they just phoned me back.

The guy said that there was almost no traffic from where i am to somewhere so it looks like there was a fault somewhere that cased my dead slow line. It is up and running again at 4mb speeds.
So the techie was also talkin bs when telling me im too far from the exchange.
