Nope, last time a technician was assigned he never showed and just said that the problem is on client side, that was last week Saturday.

With this logged, you will unfortunately have to eliminate the router as a source of the problems before Telkom will log another fault.

Using my Afrihost test account makes no difference to my connection

Well technically they already did that the last time they actually came to my house with one of their own routers. Cause they had the same problem then.

If my router was at fault, would i have high or inconsistent ping when pinging my router?

Don't know if one can assume a good ping result is an indication that everything about a router is okay.

Just noticed before a dc, the SNR Margin (dB) was -9.1

Current stats
Upstream Downstream
Current Rate (Kbps) 1009 4675
Max Rate (Kbps) 1020 12560
SNR Margin (dB) 6.1 24.8
Line Attenuation (dB) 23.9 36.5
Errors (Pkts) 0 0

Are you running a very long extension to the Router?

Router pings should be 1-3ms max if cabled.

<10 if wireless.

If it's more than that or completely drops out then your router is dying. How old is it? More than likely dust and dirt causing static if it's having erratic ping issues.

So i was once again told that i am too far away from the exchange....
So they dropped my speed to 6mb, yet my SNR stays the same
Upstream Downstream
Current Rate (Kbps) 765 6392
Max Rate (Kbps) 1092 14408
SNR Margin (dB) 15.7 5.9
Line Attenuation (dB) 23.3 36
Errors (Pkts) 0 0

And i found another guy living in the same area as me, also with a 10mb line except his line is stable and running just fine

Very convenient excuse. have you tired to establish where your exchange is? If so measure the as the crow flies distance, multiply by 1.4 and see what value you get and how that compares with the expected attenuation for a line of that length. Alternatively, try and work out how the cable runs in your area go. Not too difficult to do. Start with doing some detective work and find the nearest Street box to you. Look at the code on the door, and then work back towards the exchange. Won't take you too long to see what the cable distance is.

Dropping you down the scale is just so much easier than finding the real problem.
