Hi 1 and all, we need to move a lot of data from SA to the USA which uses a Access Control List in other words a static IP address. Any ideas on where I can find such a service - I've checked the IS uncapped solution but I just choke on the fact that they hit you with almost a R2k setup fee.

I'm even considering a dail-up solution - since the uploads are unattended.

Any direction, pointers would be appreciated.

Thanks
B

M-Web: (the 1st is setup, the second p/m)
ADSL Uncapped Static IP - 512 R1,710 R1,539
ADSL Uncapped Static IP - 1024 R1,710 R3,078

ods.co.za claims to a uncapped/static IP account from R999 @ month, but clicking on the ad reveals prices: R 1 350 pm, R 2 700 pm, R 2 500 pm and (ouch) R 5 000 pm

....it just wants to make me scream... idiots!

ok - how about this - can a line carry both ADSL and ISDN? Seems I can get an ISDN with a fixed IP - the speed won't be great - but what can one expect I suppose

alt solution.

Well.. it might be cheaper to snail mail it on DVD....

otherwise... you might consider doing it this way.... create a cron job on your US server and get it to connect to you. Use a free dynamic DNS service like http://www.dyndns.com/ that would map your dynamic SA ip address to a domain name like blahblahbackup.ath.cx

So the US server would lookup blahblahbackup.ath.cx and connect to it (ssh scp sftp ). Then transfer the stuff across... The advantage to this would be that you could redirect the dynamic DNS to any IP you wanted if need be.

Alternatively... you could set your US server to allow a range of IP addresses. As far as Im aware most ISP's use a set block of a max say 255 ip's for your area....

Does this help?:D

Iburst also offers static IPs, not sure about costing. Dyndns could also help you out here.
