Really sorry that I did not catch this thread earlier - and sorry that you are having such a poor time :(

As some people have commented - we are currently upgrading our IPC capacity to deliver a better Uncapped DSL experience. We do believe that what we offer is very different to what is out there. We don't throttle our users and we ensure that regardless of shaping, we always give you 100% realtime performance - which we believe is the biggest priority for our clients.

I'm not sure of all the specifics of the issues you're experiencing - but I'd definitely like to help if I can.

Drop me a PM when you can, I'd love to chat further :)

OP mentioned being on a capped account

I absolutely hate MTN business infrastructure. I have a capped account with axxess and an uncapped business acc with afrihost, both of them are terrible. The capped account on an 8mb line generally doesnt get over 300kbps on download and the afrihost on a 4mb seems more like a 1mb line despite using less than 20GB per month atm.

Afrihost and Axxess apparently run on the MtnBusiness-backbone ( biggest lot of crap i've ever seen ). Can someone put me on the right direction to a service that DOESNT run on Mtnbusiness as a backbone?

...thx folks

Hey Robin Hood, why not test the MWEB network?

I can arrange a test account for you, if you're interested ;)

I have to second that, until MWEB sorts out their warning emails, I would stay away.

It cannot be long until their consumer ADSL base declines to a point where they have to rethink their options.

Your other options are;

IS based ISP which use the star rating, not cool if you want to use BW during office hours

Telkom/SAIX - not as bad as you think

ATC http://www.tcadsl.co.za/ but I cannot find a reseller

Cybersmart, they did go through a slump but I havent seen much testing recently.

As soon as MTN/Afrihost sort out the Telkom uplink upgrade, I am hoping things will get better, else I am off to try ATC or Cybersmart

Telkom Internet isn't on SAIX anymore really - they have their own IPConnect
SAIX is a Telkom wholesale system.

If it was a backbone issue, all of us would be having problems, and I have not had these latency issues since I've joined Afrihost 6 weeks ago.

Try another ISP's trial accounts, and see if there's a difference.

I wouldn't drop Afrihost just yet. Everything so far from them is a step above everyone else really.

OOPS! there goes my whole reason for wanting to try Telkom again. So thus who else remains?

The nerve. What are you offering? You latest AUP with a certificate to blame the customer as a permanent abuser? Get real!

except that their network performance in its own right is very very good ...

Maybe still worth a try but I have hopes that Afrihost fix their IPC capacity issues soon then there will be very few ISP's that can even bother to compete.

Mweb do not want to expand they just want to milk the masses by subscribing more and more members with the same data and network capacity budget and keep on throwing the top 3% users down the drain while they overcharge their clients with a extremely downgraded service. In the end they will have a saturated service with people (uninformed grannies) paying a fortune to do e-mails, browsing and minimal downloads at high speed at a huge profit margin. No downloads or gaming allowed.

Then Openweb offers a much better service and experience for what you pay!

Mweb have lost all their credibility since implementing throttling.

Some would say they never had any to begin with.

Absolutely zero AH issues here, I can suck as much as I wish, when I wish, but I do keep it within reason.
