my brother needs someone to redesign and develop their company website. he's done the current one himself but doesn't have time to design and create a new one. once it's up he'll maintain the site.

he's asked me to find a reputable programmer who won't rip them off - one of you guys should be perfect :-)) :-))

I wouldn't pay an Indian to sniff my farts dude, keep it local instead and you know your stuff will be done like you want it

I'm a factist. If you're from the country India and you offer web design/programming services, you suck.

I've worked with many of them before, locally and while I was in Dubai, and they never deliver on deadline, never have an optimized solution (I kept hearing our server wasn't good enough for 1 website) and would most likely just disappear with your money

If I were to be racist I'd call him a curry muncher or something

Well Vipin will probably do a much better job than anything you can develop.
 
Don't mean to sound paranoid or anything, but I would recommend you contact web design company directly.
A first time post that meets all your requirements? Sounds too convenient.

actually i posted here hoping that one of the MyBB regulars would respond :-)

i also noticed Vipin has only 1 post and not to be critical the sites he links to aren't great - but that's all up to Mike.

appreciate your input guys.
 
Maumau your requirements are basic so the process should be not that hard. You don't require a web developer as they would in any case just reuse an existing store front system.
If you want to move the site from static HTML to dynamic I would imagine you first way up what server side solution you would like to use e.g. Wordpress or Magento. Even though you don't require it to have ecommerce capabilities now you could want to do so in the future if your sales go up
Then does your hoster support your chosen solution.
Then do you need a web designer if you want to redesign the company unique graphics and want a unique look and feel
If no then either decide on a template in the web system or just ask just go with the basic template that is a Flat UI feel which isn't a bad thing as minimalist is the way to go.
Once you have those questions answered you just need someone to put it all together and train you to add and modify products.

I investigated outsourcing to India and spoke to a lot of local companies. Same story got repeated: everybody was happy but stopped using them as Indian devs always work to the spec. They will never point something out, never correct something and will never make suggestions. There code is always a mess, lots of cut 'n paste and they are limited to what they can do.

Only one company I know of still uses Indian devs and thats to do their styling on sites, even then the South African guys still have to preper all the work for them.

After that I'm no longer afraid of "How I lost my job to India"

Tell your brother to look at a CMS like Wordpress for the site. I did a site for a local products importer in Wordpress and it was easy and cheap.

All he really needs is a good theme and guys like http://www.obox-design.com/ deliver some quality ones.

The advantage to Wordpress is its easier to find staff to support it and there are dozens of quality plugins to handle things like SEO.

I'm doing that as a favor for a friend who runs his own business. Link juice is what Google loves.

In any case, like I said, what do I know hey.... I just WORKED in the Middle East for a year. Go ahead and hire their services and see how many viagra links you get to your website :) (it's their way of SEO)
