Negative sentiment knocks rand

Why though? Just this morning I heard Zuma on the radio reassure investors that there were 'hiccups in some industries like mining and agriculture' but that the 'unrests have been contained' and that SA is still a good place to invest in.

I wonder why they don't believe him?

Zuma doesn't care about the R/$ exchange rate. He gets unlimited funding from his "investors". He doesn't care about the country.. he just cares what the country can do for him (filling his wallet)

**** here we go again, fuel price increase, food increase, everything will increase.
Thank you ANC you are doing a fantastic job of screwing up the country, well done

+1

So sad, but he has about as much credibility as a crack addict managing a pharmacy.

...and on the flip side those who export are smiling. Every story has two sides guys.

Economists still seem to disagree on whether a weaker rand may be better for the economy. Both sides have reasonable arguments.

Weak rand only benefits the rich then, the people on the ground will suffer and suffer greatly

Weaker rand helps out a lot in a place like the Platinum sector which is in trouble now and looking like cutting a ton of jobs. Perhaps the rand weakening will at least calm that situation down and save some jobs. Also SA is primarily an exporting economy so all our exporters will hopefully be smiling. Sucks for the importers though. Still, overall a weaker currency always boosts local industry as they become more competitive.

South Africa is a net importer of capital and intermediate goods. In that respect a weak rand is not good for us.

Hopefully by the time I move to the USA it would have grown a bit stronger. A lot stronger would be great, but that's doubtful.

Weak rand is a bit of a boon for me atm due to getting in some overseas work.

Assuming a pessimistic attitude towards this country, perhaps your moving will bolster the rand... ;)
