I just saw a article about the Nehalem and the X58, any ideas on performance, price and arrival date?

Dude, really. Just start using Google. Price: Unknown. Performance: Godly but there aren't stable mobo's available just yet and the hardware is far from being finished. Arrival date: Q4.

I did use google but my cap ran out, I couldn't find the price, and I saw arrival dates ranging from Q3 2008- 1Q 2009 so I decided to check what you guys think. I suppose the Asus pk5 won't be able to run the Nehalem

will it compatible with current GFX cards?
I'll be building a pc around December/January but this will still prbably be to expensive:(

I hope it will be affordable when I'm ready to buy my pc. I won't be able to afford it if it is R5000 or something like that

It's a new quad core processor with HT, a new pin layout, etc that whips the arse of even the fastest current quad core. Of course it'll be unaffordable.

how long do you think it would take to come down to +-R3000?

Considering we don't have ANY clue as to what it's even going to cost when it launches, that's a bit of a silly question. It might never reach R3000, with the current happenings in the economy and the exchange rate. It's one of those "just wait and see" situations. I mean, the motherboard development hasn't even been completed and a lot can happen in 6 months.

I think that when it's launched their will be a few different ones (clocked differently that is).

Like we saw the (45nm) Q9300 go for +-R3000 at launch, there should also be (32nm) quads that will fall into the R3000-ish category upon launch.

No reason for it to be unaffordable when it gets launched.
I actually think that Intel might launch it at a bit of a lower price than will be anticipated, because of the fact that a new mobo will be required to run the CPU. Intel may just cut prices seeing that there will be no "upgrade" option to a Nahelem, and will therefore see a little less initial sales.

Now they could either decide to sell the chips at an insane price, or they can do what they did last July (when the Q6600 was launched) and cut prices.

Also : Back to Nahelem : I think the move to tri-channel RAM will be awesome too.

*fingers crossed for the price to be in my price range*

Initial releases will be server based and i reckon no desktop parts until end Q1 2009

Anand also mentioned 2 different boards one for server one for desktop

From what i read the prices start at $316 - $999, seems really cheap to me compared to the price/performance of AMD quad processors.

Im sure we can all play Crysis now with a Nehalem and a Ati 4870

Where did you read that ?

And I think it's time nVidia and ATI took a leaf out of Intel's book. There latest upgrade of Intel's have brought big speed increases, while minimizing heat output and power requirements and keeping the chip the same size. Each time nVidia or ATI create a new breed of graphics cards, there's none of the refinement seen in CPUs. Instead they're just bigger and louder and hotter. And I think the new GTX280 will be just the same.

The problem is that they're so desperate to each make the best one, and it's much cheaper to just put more stuff on, instead of worrying about little things like technological advancements or power requirements... If/when Intel start making graphics cards, I will buy these. (Maybe not, but point taken?)

I'd have to see how they performed first. I'm not an AMD/Intel/NVIDIA "fanboy" so I'll still buy what offers the best performance for my budget.

But point taken ;)
