Hi Guys

I'm looking at replacing 5x 4mbps ADSL lines with one 15mbps NeoBroadband link. I need higher upstream speeds as 640kbps is not sufficient.

I will be running VPN tunnels originating on ADSL lines and terminating on this 15mbps link.

I will appreciate any feedback on the performance of their service especially microwave.

We are situated in City Deep and we do not have fibre coverage but we do have microwave coverage.

Regards,

We're actually running a Business Wimax link at my office as primary Mail/Remote connectivity link with ADSL failovers. The Wimax is rock solid and exceptionally fast up and down

The only problem I had with Microwave is the extra cost involved in setting it up initially

I was given the same installation cost of R1500 once off. Is that what you are referring to?

Also, Do you get what you pay for, E.g. if you have a 5mbps link, do you get 5mbps all the time?

1500 onceoff for the microwave? I remember being given the option for Wimax or Microwave but the contract duration and installation fee was more for Microwave - which could have been changed since then

I did a quick speedtest on a failover 2mbps Wimax link as primary is a bit busy ^.^,speeds have been consistent on our 5 and 2meg link since installation, haven't had downtime either

That was what the quote said. I hope they got it right :-)

The problem I have is that they are only willing to give me a 48 hour trial period. I am not willing to sign a 12 months contract @ R11000+ a month if the service doesn't perform. I would pay for a month trial but they refuse.

Yeah that was my initial problem too,the Wimax I got a trial for 2 days and kept it,exceedingly happy, kicks telkom adsl for a 6

Would really like some feedback on the microwave if possible. I run a home business that is highly dependent on broadband connectivity. Telkom lines in my area have been stolen too often, I've contacted Neotel to install Broadband fibre or wimax, unfortunately none of these will work for me since my area is not part of the coverage. Neotel does state that they can give me coverage through microwave. So if anyone out there is using Neotel Microwave, please reply to this thread with your experiences.

They do offer POC's on broadband fibre deals such as yours. Together with them, success criteria is set for the month of the POC and if it's successful in all aspects over that initial month, then your full contract kicks in. You still pay the first month subscription fee for the 'POC'.

who is their microwave supplier?

MW really depends on the hop setup, power, LoS and ultimately professional installation.

Not impressed with Neotel at the moment. Speeds are good but our fiber line has been down since Wednesday morning. 4 hour SLA and it is still not working correctly.

We will be moving providers shortly.

Who are you thinking of moving to?

Not sure yet to be honest. We are waiting for a backup Telkom fibre install at the moment so once that is in we will evaluate the other providers.

Isn't there some sort of penalty fee for backing out on a contract too early ? Heard that a 12 month minimum contract had to be signed for fiber.

Yup, early termination fees. But theres also penalties when the supplier doesn't meet the SLA requirements.

We got a 8mbps Neotel WiMax and its working very well we get the max out of the link.
It's better than what I expected.

We have a 10Mbps Neotel Fiber link at our office. Apart from taking about 4 months to install, so far the link has performed exceptionally well.

I'm quite impressed.

Strange, the sales person I deatl with refused outright any POC or trial. Even after I told him I am willing to pay for it. Do you have a contact at Neotel, perhaps someone that knows more than the sales person that helped me.
