Howsit guys, i am thinking about ordering a NeoConnect Lite Unlimited package and i was just wondering . . . What download speeds will i be able to achieve? In KB/s? Because i have a Vodacom 3G HSDPA modem here at home and i normally get a 2 Gig bundle every month and i need a bit more usage so was thinking about going the uncapped route. On the 3G i can manage like 130kb/s transfer speed on a download on a good day, a very good day indeed. I would say my average is about 80kb/s tho . . Torrents go up to like 30/40 kb/s too.

I would like to download a bit more torrents with the neotel package obviously:D:D

Thanks
Grey

Internet for starters with peak download speeds of 156Kbps and average speeds between 50 and 100Kbps. You can email, browse the Internet and download simple games, wallpapers and images with ease.

Max = 156 Kbps = 19.5 KBps
Avg. = 50 Kbps = 6.25 KBps to 100 Kbps = 12.5 KBps

So not very fast. Its almost like a ISDN connection.

So you thinks its a no go for downloading large amounts over the month? I mean 6-12k should suffice for downloading a movie etc . .how long would say a 3 gig file take?

Any reason not to get the R999 one that goes just as fast as your 3G?

those numbers keep ticking over in my head, first let me warn you though my math isnt what it should be and prolly is wrong :
so lets look at the lowest speed, 6.25 * 60 * 60 * 24 gives me 540 000 kB a day, so i'd guess about 6 days for 3 gig? assumemng it's always going at the slowest, how to work out tha av, i dunno, help please guys :)
but even that speed, i sepose i could live with it, lemme go thru theie site quick, there must be a catch somewhere

the only thing that sticks out is the 24 month contract and that you have to use ther 'device', btw 6 days for 3 gig doesnt feel right, maybe 4 and a half/5 days? what else, uhm ohja they say there 'basic internet' so it wouldn't surprize me if they block p2p

Yeah thanks guys i will have a look at the Prime then . .But im no avid downloader lol . . .If the prime is like 3G then i might just get it

NeoConnect Lite

Just adding this for anyone else, as I wasn't totally sure what was the specs on the Lite package.

You'd be lucky If you can download 1 gig in 2 days.
Browsing will be terrible...

hi all

on the contrary, i had dial-up and downloaded almost a gig a day!
and browsing was was not all that bad- at the moment im using 384 kb adsl and sometimes i feel as though the dial-up connection was better for browsing!
so if this "lite" package is slightly faster than dial-up it should be no problem .

thanks

Dialup at a max speed of 56K will only give you about 518MB per 24hours.
:) Assuming your connection ALWAYS maxes out.

Two days on dialup 24/7 would give you 1GB.

+1 on PeterCH's assessment ... and dial-up 24/7 is just a tad costly no :eek:
