Sorry for making a new thread with the Neoflex data thread still going on. Just thought it would be a good idea to make a separate thread to punctuate this.

NeoFlex Data

NeoFlex Data is a wireless, multi-user, high-speed, high capacity data service, which is best suited for a small home office, SME, or the high data usage home user. Neotel is committed to introducing services that suit your home or business needs. The service is flexible and convenient to use.

With peak speeds of 3.1Mbps (downloads) and 1.8Mbps (uploads), the device has average data speeds of between 450 to 900Kbps (downloads) and 300 to 700Kbps (uploads). NeoFlex Data connects via Ethernet and Wireless LAN and is perfect for those with a multi-user data requirement.

With minimal downtimes and packages designed to suit your needs, NeoFlex Data is your ultimate internet and data solution.

Why choose this service?
Peak speeds of 3.1Mbps (downloads) and 1.8Mbps (uploads)
Average data speeds of between 450 to 900Kbps (downloads) and 300 to 700Kbps (uploads)
4 Ethernet ports and Wireless LAN connectivity (up to 10 user Internet access)
10GB package at R699pm (device fee and VAT @ 14% included)
15GB package at R899pm (device fee and VAT @ 14% included)
Additional data at 8c/MB
Wireless solution that can be used anywhere within your region of Neotel coverage
Device also acts as a DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) server and will assign IP addresses to connected users
Battery back-up in the event of a power failure

What is that all about?

i'm guessing the device can only handle 10 connections at once, 4 ethernet and 6 wireless?

or were you asking why its limited? does seem a bit strange to put a limit on connections.

This does seem a bit expensive though - for R 999 you can get uncapped internet with the Prime option. Granted its not as fast or versatile (phone/modem vs. router), i wonder if the device cost is pushing up the price?

... i wonder if the device cost is pushing up the price?

If that is the case, they should look at more choices in devices, or even allow somebody to source their own equipment in order to lower the price. What is the purpose of getting a data only service, if it is the same price as another service that gives you free calls, free sms's and more cap for the same price?

This is ridiculous! Wat a waste of time, neotel can keep their "service"

I don't think it is a waste of time. You are going to pay R700 a month to get a ADSL line with a 5GB cap and 512K throughput (using figures from Axxess).

I can't see how 10GB and reasonable throughput is going to be bad. Yes this is not for everyone and it is R100 more than I was hoping for but it seems like a reasonable service to start with.

What is not reasonable is the call centre that won't let me order the service because it is being launched today.

"So when can I order it?"

"Can't tell you that sir, we are launching it today to educate out customers about the service."

I wanted to throttle her.

Why only those 2 packages? A 5 GB package would have suited me perfectly.

Take out the device fee (R100) then it is R599 for 10Gig with nothing.
Neoconnect Prime is R599 for 10Gig + device + free on-net minutes and sms and you can use for other service.

Typically South Africa - abuse the consumer

I wouldn't say that... it is at least a step in the right direction.

This is unshaped wireless internet that will cost you 8c/mb out of cap.

The cheapest 10 Gig package listed on hellkom.co.za is:
10GB - 384k ADSL account from OpenWeb at R299/mo, total cost is then R 575.20/mo.

And the most expensive is:
Unshaped 10GB account from Adept at R1380/mo, total cost is then R 1656.20/mo (i assume thats a 384 k line?)

You can't compare speeds here, but look at the prices, Neotel is IMO the better value for money option. It doesn't win hands down but the price is better.

come on, what about a 5 Gig option..I was soo looking forward to this..maybe they will add more options. I some awesome coverage in my area and I am hoping they will add more..

Its for 24 months waste of money since we expecting cheaper broadbrand this year if they had a pay monthly option maybe would have been worth while.

I pay R550 for uncapped 512, only prob is speed and latecy. Thought neotel would would help eith speed but thats expensive, the right direction??? There uncapped is 300 away WITH a phone so basically you paying for a phone and get all that other stuff for R300, neoflex makes no sense.

What can I buy for R350.00?

If they offered a 5gig package for R350.00 I'd pick up a contract on the way home today.

It's all I can justify on internet connectivity with my current budget.

First many of you were whining that the produt was not released - now you're whining when the product has been released and it does not suit your pocket!

Have you ever sat back and taken a long hard look @ yourselves and how you project your needs? How does a company go about pleasing everyone all of the time? That is never going to happen!

Besides, this is their first shot on these data only packages and as common business practice goes you cannot sell something dirt cheap and get no ROI in your first few months of release...makes sense to me to be a little cautious and then show all your cards @ a later date.

@ nukem: If you read their FAQ's on the NeoFlex Data product page you will find that it's not a full on contract - it is infact month-to-month and your only liabilty is the device cost thats outstanding.

You still fork out for the device when june/july rolls on and you want to terminate your contract because of a cheaper option you still pay. If people are happy paying that price for 24 months good for them when the costs drop will neotel drop there price on the contract you have with them per month? No.

It all depends on how hard you work the Retentions person you deal with...like I am doing with iBurst @ the moment :D

(Am donating my iBurst line to the parents)

I don't claim to be speakinf for anyone else but our household spending is constrained by budget.

When I consider buying a service or item I need to determine a maximum budget and going on that get the best I can afford.

Neotel seems to be adopting the strategy of offering more for the same price which is great if you can afford the current price. My desire is for them to offer the same product except at a lower price.

Neotel would still be making as big a profit if they offered a package of possibly 4gig for R300 - R350 and they would appeal to a lot more customers. This would equate to a greater return on thei investment.

What can possible have possesed some of you to go out and compare ADSL (Fixed line, low latency, almost 0% downtime, awesome consistant speeds etc.) to a crappy wireless product from neotel with 0 customer support, high latencies, inconsistant download speeds, high downtime... and say it's cheaper and imply that therefor it's a better buy.

That's just plain ignorance
