Hi

I need some help setting up my Neoflex router. I'm a total noob when it comes to wireless networks, but I've managed to set up the router, and I can connect to it whith my laptop. The problem is with my other pc, it seems like it gets the wrong ip adress from the router. It gets an adress in a totally diferent range. It then says that it has limited or no connection.
When I mannually insert the ip adress to match the adress given to my laptop, it connects to the router, but when I look at the connection status it only receives packets, and doesn't send.

This is outside my range of expertise and any help will be appreciated.

Easiest would be to enable DHCP on the wireless router, so that you don't have to configure IP settings on your PCs. The default settings should be fine. You've obviously configured the IP settings incorrectly, and unfortunately all settings have to be correct for a machine to connect.

Explaining TCP/IP on a forum is not something I'm willing to attempt on a Sunday evening so if you want to configure your settings manually, I'd suggest a couple of hours reading up on the TCP/IP protocol.

DHCP is enabled on the router, my problem is that it gives out an ip adress to my laptop, and it connects fine. But my desktop pc gets an ip in a totally different range and therefore doesn't connect.

Maybe the encryption type is too advanced for the Wi-Fi adapter on the desktop PC.

Try disabling the router's Wi-Fi encryption temporarily and see if both computers can connect to it. If that solves the problem, make use of a lower encryption type in the mean time - until you can replace the Wi-Fi adapter.

An alternative that is sometimes much simpler and cheaper is to connect the desktop PC to the router with an Ethernet cable.

Are you possibly not fighting with a different wireless connection that has no encryption on it?

I use the same usb Wi-Fi adaptors on both my laptop and desktop pc's.

Maybe toxicbunny has a point, cause I do pick up another network as well. It's encrypted though.

what are the names of the 2 networks you see Mouba?... maybe yours is the encrypted one.

How do I force my adapter to only connect to my router.

I left mine as default "AxxessMV400", and the other one is "Lolly's Network" or something, but they are both encrypted.

Try a different channel if you think it's clashing. I doubt it though. Are you using a,b,g,n?

Very much doubt they're clashing as well if they're both encrypted... esp since you'll have to enter the passphrase to connect, and the chances of having the same passphrase are slim to none at best, but changing the channel is prob the first step in figuring out what the issue might be..

What OS are u using mouba?

They are b/g adaptors. How do I change the channel ? Do I just use the phrasekey generated for that channel ?

I'm using XP Pro on both pc's.

Nah... you should have the ability to change the channels on the router setup, IF the neoflex router is even half decent... can't rem how many channels you should see.

What encryption are you using? WEP? WPA? WPA-PSK?

As I said, it's more likely to do with some other setting on that PC.

A change of channel will shift the radio frequency ever so slightly so that a neighbouring one doesn't overlap and cause interference. If you log into your router, you will see a setting like "Channel 11".

Have you tried a different browser, reinstalling the USB drivers for that adapter?

I think I saw a channel setting, will look into it tomorrow, going to bed now, have an early morning.

I'm using WEP encryption.

Thanks for the help, at least I have something to work with now. Will report back on progress.

Do I need to configure a computer to connect via NeoFlex Data using PPPoE?

No. The NeoFlex Data device connects to the network automatically, and remains connected as long as it is within coverage, and will re-connect if the connection drops. When using Ethernet (Local Area Network) or WiFi (Wireless Local Area Network), any computer simply needs to connect to the local network. The device supports NAT, and has a DHCP server, so that local IP addresses can be issued automatically, requiring no further configuration. One Ethernet cable is shipped with the device.

For full configuration details and further information, download the manual here: http://www.neotel.co.za/neotel/actio...ia_fileid=1920

What network security is provided by the device?

The device supports WEP and WPA security and MAC address filtering on WiFi. To avoid unauthorised usage, it is recommended that you enable security settings, and when the device is not in use, we recommend simply turning the device off. To view security setting options and Neotel’s Wi-Fi disclaimer download the NeoFlex Data Wi-Fi Guide here: http://www.neotel.co.za/neotel/actio...ia_fileid=1921

The device also has some firewall functionality, allowing you to secure you LAN or Wireless LAN from the Internet.

I tried the suggestions and nothing worked. Tried changing the channel on the router still the same, pc 1 connects, pc 2 gets an ip in differant range.
Tried changing the usb Wi-Fi adaptors, same story.
The only way both pc's connect is if I put the encryption off.

This is driving me nuts. pc1 connects to the router no prob. gets an ip in range 192.168.0.1
Pc2 I point to my SSID, connect, and after a while gets a ip in 169.xxx.0.240 range.

ahhh.. ok.. the 169.xxx.xxx.xxx ip range is windows private range.. meaning its not getting stuff from the DHCP server.

are you using the same USB adapter on pc1 and pc2?

Yes, using the same adaptor. Even tried swopping them, but still the same.
Can connect both if I turn encryption off.
