Well, now that Neotel is here....in JHB.

Are they going to be cheaper than Telkom?

Why would they want to be significantly cheaper than Telkom? They're only here to make money.

I think they will be more expensive at the start but I HOPE they will drop prices quicker than telkom.

I think that the industry hoped that Neotel would come in as direct competition to Telkom, as a BETTER option,

It would have been nice to see somebody give Telkom a huge wakeup call.

BUT, Neotel at R50k a meg...........:(

Staying with Telkom costs you, moving to Neotel , costs you more....

'ARE WE EVER GONNA SEE CHEAPER BANDWIDTH, OR ARE WE DESTINED TO PAY PAY PAY'

e.g. if telkom charged ADSL line bussiness for 4000grand a month then neotel should consider to make the price half cheaper or even 70% cheaper than telkoms

70% cheaper? Dont you think they want to make money? We'll be lucky if we see 7% cheaper.

yes but if you think about it... If neotel makes the offer 70% cheaper then they will get more customers than telkom i mean who's gonna stay at telkom if that happens

e. neotel 70% than telkom ... so 300000 poeple uses neotel to say R2000 a month where 50000 people telkom uses telkom at R4000 or more a month at the end of the day neotel will make more money than telkom the more cheaper their services is..

i think?

I don't see cell companies doing that so i expect them to do less(or the same as cell companies). If they were really to suddently come in and drop prices by greater than 50% it will be a NEW SA RECORD !! but i am not that optimistic..

How on earth can Neotel be more expensive than telkom?

those huge numbers are reserved for the study of quantam physics not telephone bills!

Well... although neotel does have its own infrastructure, I think that it still has to rely on telkom for most of its links.... I mean, it has a landing point in durban, some bandwidth on SAT3, a few radio links from eskom and thats about it. It will be effected by telkom.

And what about the government shareholding in NEOTEL? Aren't we just seeing a new TELKOM in the making?

Things are still new so lets wait and see, or maybe I'm being optimistic

Still love the fact though that Neotel has a link to Myadsl
All around the world, broadband access is becoming the preferred means by which individual consumers and small businesses connect to telecommunications networks. Broadband access typically provides high speed Internet, voice (or VoIP), and, increasingly, various video services. There are currently more than 200 million broadband users around the world, though South Africa’s numbers remain low by global standards. For discussions on broadband issues in South Africa, visit the MyBroadband discussion forum.

Let the Verizon's and IS's, etc. put down there own infrastructure thru out the country if they want to and give them access to SAT3 at the prices telkom pay per meg. Unbundle Local Loop. Problem solved.
