Neotel forgot to cancel my contract (updated) R1000 bill!

I have had my Neotel for a little bit now. Actually I am waiting for them to call me "within 48 hours" since I cancelled the contract two weeks ago - within the first 3 days.

The device is still connected and working (if you can call it working), so I guess I will use it until they call me.

Anyway - I can't do much with it, over the weekend I think I should rather just use gprs on my cell phone as I will get a faster connection. The connection is slower than death. Gmail times out, google cant search etc etc. The connection stays open yet the bandwidth drops and requires a reconnect. Any download - nomatter how big - will get corrupted.

Don't forget that IF you ever want to use the phone, don't dial out while on the internet, you will get disconnected.

I had ADSL installed, just waiting to find a power supply for the device. Interestingly enough - TELKOM actually came out within the 7 days promised... AND called me within the time promised.

I have never received a call from Neotel - maybe I will just call my Credit Card company to get the deposit reversed while I still have time.

Hi superkew,

Please may I have your account details or Neotel service number, name & contact details so that I can have an agent resolve your issue.

Quick update:

Neotel has not contacted me since the rep emailed me... BUT!

I just got a statement - for 2 months' fees, AND - 8GB of transfer. It is IMPOSSIBLE that I transferred 8GB for two reasons.

1. The contract was cancelled
2. The line is way too slow to even imagine 8GB.

Now I have a bill of almost R1000 for a cancelled contract.

I'd love to see what happens here....

Oh dear... Fail-o-tel has really not managed to live up to the hope and hype of real competition. Such a pity this couldn't have been in the hands of a more competent bunch who really understand what it is they are involved in (in terms of the implications for our economy.)
It seems that they can only compete with Telkom in terms of who sucks hardest.

Should have done your homework before signing up

You'd think that one wouldn't have to do homework on a "broadband" solution that disconnects you when using the phone. Then again, it's actually just plain old dial up with these speeds.

Hi superkew,

To confirm your conversation with Samantha, you termination will be processed @ the end of the month.

I got back to SA on 1st may and had a voicemail from Neotel.

You contract has been cancelled. YAY - finally.

EXCEPT

They just sent me ANOTHER statement, now for R1500. And where is my deposit?

This is useless. I was told that I will not be liable for ANY fees when I cancelled my contract and somehow they now think that I owe them money, in fact Neotel owes me money.

If I don't pay they will probably try to blacklist me. So what do I do?

I am also thinking of cancelling my NeoConnect Prime after having it for just 4 days.
Got it Saturday morning and speeds were crap the whole weekend or so I thought..
Seems that if you have utorrent running it kills bandwidth, not to say the torrent download is very high(average between 30-40kbps) This is the reason I got the 15gb option. I'll wait a little while more to see how things go with your issue of the cancellation.. interesting to see how it plays out.

I know it's probably a stupid thing to ask, but you do put some effort in disconnecting and reconnecting? I sometimes struggle to get connected, and have to spend quite a lot of time disconnecting, reconnecting, disconnecting, reconnecting until I want to be sick. But the moment I get a good connection, it absolutely flies. I've hardly been under 70kbps since last Friday, so I'm delighted with Neotel at the moment after some weeks of mild annoyance.
