Neotel expects more

they should put more into coverage, IMHO, it's pathetic.

Torcher! that they offer a better service but that we can't get hold of it.

me thinks they need coverage for one and Ethernet device.

And they probably waiting for seacom to land next year before they will become cheaper

Sadly, it sounds like Neotel is looking for something else to blame for the slow uptake. This week it's number portability. For all their statements declaring that they're launched a product in line with customer demands, it's rather obvious they have no clue what customers are demanding.

No contracts.
Broadband free of compulsory voice.
Decent equipment.
The phone or internet thing? My word - how dark ages.
Coverage.

Try harder, Neotel.

im sure i read it somewhere some time back that that they were looking to introduce ethernet??

and the contract thingie: no one wants to be locked into some old price when prices come crashing down. id rather pay in advance for whatever gadget that they trying to get me to finance over 24 months.

Cost of entry is too high.

One can get Telkom at R250 installed, instrument included, rent for year 1 included, but calls excluded.

It is nice to do cherry picking, but to get there, one has to build a reputation. Pay-as-you-go type services does that.

The cleaner at work might get a new service and tell the tealady who tells the receptionist who tells the PA to the CIO...

I won't consider Neotel for home or work for evaluation at the current cost of entry.

I would love to sign up with Neotel, but they are seem a bit confused about if I have coverage or not and were not very helpful when I phoned them. They also had my details months ago and said they would contact me when they launched in Cape Town, but they never did. Fortuantly I saw the details of their CT launch and phoned them. There coverage map is also very slow and confusing. It says there is coverage where I am, but the phone guys say its marignal and not likley to work.

I thought the whole idea of Neotel was that it was the new FIXED LINE operator, not wireless. If this is a temporary solution before the fixed lines arrive then so be it, but I certainly wont move over until there is a nice fixed cable/fibre at my door. Neotel hardly competes against Telkom, its more against the likes of Iburst and other erratic wireless services.

I feel exactly the same way.
I play games online, thus wireless high latency is a no no.
Um..of all the adsl users in this country, how many are gamers? I bet a very high percentage.
Neotel I promise...GIVE me a fixed line and ill port tomorow.

Give the customer what they want - not what you think they will accept.

Operator cant even find Muizenberg in the database.....

Yep same as everybody else said.

My gripes... not in any particular order:
1) Ping too high for online gaming
2) I do not use the phone line at all and have no intention of ever using it. So A) give me the option of not having a phone line, or B) give me the option of completely disabling the phone line. Since I do not need the line I definitely do not need to be interrupted when somebody phones the incorrect number.
3) Massive hype was made about the enormous savings we would all be receiving. I am yet to see any of that.
4) Coverage is pathetic. Months down the line and they are no closer to where I stay in Pretoria. They don't even come close to covering my work which is in a business district and we will sign up as soon as we get coverage.
5) Device not having ethernet is a definite no-no
6) Nobody is going to sign a 24-month contract when they know there are going to be enormous changes for the better in the next 24-months
7) Where is your WiMAX? Where is your ADSL?

Well, we've been hearing about Neotel for years now. They were a whisper at first with their name popping up in conversations here and there and various rumours of when they would launch. Then, for the average guy like myself who doesn't actually follow the ins and outs of SA telecoms on a daily basis, suddenly they had arrived and we weren't there. Sorry, but I've seen one, that's ONE advert on TV for Neotel. Maybe i'm just that out of touch with the world but to me it doesn't seem like they announced their presence with much authority.

Anyway, my plan was always to let the guinea pigs run in and help with the teething problems that were undoubtedly going to crop up. When I hear of good reports by word of mouth is when I start considering the possibility of moving over.

The flip side of the coin is and always was going to be that introducing some competition to the Telkom empire would force them to up their game. I was quite shocked recently when I called their ADSL support and expected the usual 45 minute rendition of Spandau Ballet's 'True' only to discover that they had a new system in place and I was talking to a human being within 2 minutes. So, I'll be giving it a little while longer to see what happens before I be having it. :D

Also, I want my low-latency 4mb ADSL (AT LEAST)....just.....better!

Is the 24 month contract really such a big deal considering it will cost you, at most, R1920 to cancell it?

Well, most people have experienced iBurps and their accounts dept. so yes, people are reticent.

I think NeoTel was/is placing way too much on the customer care aspect. What they don't seem to get is, although decent customer care and after sale service is important, it is NOT A SELLING POINT.

They have openly come out to say that they will not directly compete with Telkom by engaging in a price war. Well NeoTel, maybe it is time for you to realise that the limitations of your current product range and pricing structure, coupled with number portablity issue, will not lure clients away from Telkom. You will have to make your service a LOT CHEAPER than Telkom, after all, the NeoTel product range is far inferior to what Telkom is offering in my opinion. Altenatively come up with a decent product that offers true broadband at affordable prices, and by affordable I mean affordable to the masses.

yeah I agree with the contract argument. I would glady have signed up if it wasnt for the fact that it was a 24 month contract.

A contract would have been fine - If I was able to choose the device I was paying for.

Neotel, improve your coverage, increase your speed and offer an ethernet/wifi device.

Btw... I could have sworn there was an article where Neotel spoke about the unexpected high call volumes they were receiving... Was that just hot air like all of Neotel's previous hype? Personally I think when a company blatantly lies it should be liable to criminal prosecution.
