I am currently sitting at my desk here at the office. If I look up the street to my right, or down the street to my left, I see plenty of luminous (wearing safety reflective clothing) diggers with picks and spades and tar\concrete cutting machines going crazy on the pavement.

Spoke to one of the guys - they are definitely laying cables for Neotel - and funnily enough they are planning on making a mini exchange box right next to the current Telkom Chronoblock-box on the front pavement in front of our premises :)

Things are starting to gether speed - I hope they deliver way more than Telkom has ever promised!

EDIT: I'm in East London

mmm yeah, and if you drive down William Nicol (From Hyde park towards sandton drive), you will notice that that whole stretch of road is dug up. That is also all Neotel...

hopefully we see something within this decade...

:( I was hoping to see network reports / usage review from a tester or something, lol ^^

It's still great to hear that the infrastructure is actually in development now - I just can't wait for service usage verdicts.

Yeah, I live in Pinetown and we had Neotel digging up all the pavements in the area here too. Very effiecient they were. The entire block was dug up, layed and left as it was before in just over a week! In fact looking out the window now all I can see of their presence is a tiny patch of newly laid tar on the pavement and some grass that you can see has been relaid.

They even went under the road to get across instead of closing the road and digging it up! Great stuff!

Around the University of Johannesburg (Aukland Park Campus) they have been laying cables for about 1-2 weeks now, all along one side of the entire varsity.

I wonder if they running those cables close to telkom's... hehehe,
if a techy goes out wif a babalaass and decides to work on the incorrect fibres could cause a stir...

They dug up our roads up about a year ago, i should have asked them to throw some fiber over the wall into my yard!

What Telkom fibres? I am pretty sure the babalaas techies will be able to differentiate between copper and fibre.
