I had endless problems with my 2mb telkom adsl as I am 4.7km from the nearest exchange.
On friday I had the 4mb Neotel lte installed at my house. Installation happened within 4days of ordering and there was bad weather this week to contend with as well. Installation team was very professional. Only had 1bar signal so they installed an antenna. My speed test are between 3.88 and 4.02 download and 1.2 - 1.6 upload. ping between 22 and 35.
Only problem so far was yesterday with severe weather I had no service for about two hours. Thought i would call support this morning to find out what was going on.
I decided to reboot the system just to see what happens and voila, I was up and running again! Will still try find out why that happened.
I wanted the service for streaming and so far it has been perfect. Will keep posting updates

P.S.
Sidewinder thanks for your advice in this regard.

I am about 3km from the exchange and never get full line speed except for midnight - 4am :) LOL
Waiting for Neotel to come and do the installation at my end too, had no issues when I tested a loan unit with 1 bar or signal and without an Antenna..

Oh ok. Can you remember the make and model number of this unit? Thinking about getting the Huawei B593-601 and a LTE sim from Neotel to test speeds etc.

Sorry man, dont remember the make / model - but the one I had looked like the B593-601 it just had 2 antennas build into it.

Just know you will be enslaved for 24 Months, I have the 2MB on the current plan, any upgrades to speeds will result you entering a new contract, any changes in pricing and auto migration will happen on condition you enter a new contract (called and confirmed yesterday). Otherwise the services is quite stable consistent DL speed ranging between 220 - 234kb/s on my 2MB line. Any cancellation requires a formal letter drafted and sent to cancellation which may or MAY NOT receive it (check hellopeter for confirmation) and you do not own any of the equipment. Make sure you don't get screwed on the cost of installation as well.

For alternatives check BitCo if you live within their coverage area I hear good things.

Any idea what the cancellation costs are?

Good day
I am also thinking of moving from Telkom 4meg (Afrihost Uncapped) to a Neobroadband 4meg wireless. Thanks to you guys for all the info above but I have one or two more questions:
1. How is Neobroadband 4meg for online gaming (Speed and Latency)?
2. Is this product good for Youtube video streaming?

I'm a bit nervous as I will have to cancel my Telkom line and Afrihost to sign a 2 year contract on a system that I've had no experience on.
Just thinking of how long it will be to get Telkom reinstated gives me a headache. Ha Ha Just thinking of talking to Telkom gives me a headache.;-)

Your urgent feedback will be highly appreciated.

Any one ever hear about mmp solutions? They offer wireless as well. Initial cost for hardware and installation is 1700 and I got quoted R510 per month for 4mb. I know some one that is using them and is very happy with them. He tells me he pings lower then 10ms. Waiting on my body corporate to let me know if I can go ahead cause they fit a little satélite outside and run a cable to the closest power point. And I think it's a 12 month contract.

Good day,

The quality in regards to streaming is superb. I Myself have a 4Mbps and find it adequate for streaming video as well as online gaming. This is the latency tests in regards to gaming: Pinging 41.86.116.21 with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 41.86.116.21: bytes=32 time=41ms TTL=52
Reply from 41.86.116.21: bytes=32 time=42ms TTL=52
Reply from 41.86.116.21: bytes=32 time=41ms TTL=52
Reply from 41.86.116.21: bytes=32 time=41ms TTL=52

Ping statistics for 41.86.116.21:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 41ms, Maximum = 42ms, Average = 41ms

I have had Neotel 2mbps Wireless for 2 months now. I have been nothing but impressed all the time. Everyone in my house streams a lot of YouTube and movies and there has been no buffering at all. You can watch a HD movie and it still buffers very quickly.

The installation was quick and painless. The guy first came with the router and tested for signal, he couldn't find any so he went onto the balcony and tested with an external antenna and found full signal. They mounted it onto the wall and ran a black Ethernet cable through the roof and into the room where the router will be installed. They then glued the cable neatly down the wall and put the CPE device onto the wall. They supplied a double adaptor and then setup the router. DONE!

I think if there is no ADSL available in your area this is the way to go. I have had no problems with customer service and they have been nothing but friendly and helpful from day 1!
