Hi Guys

Quick question ... I move around alot so kinda forced to use Wireless internet services such as ISuck... i mean IBurst and so on ...
Have recently decided to simply set my router on fire and seek professional help due to [insert random Iburst rant here] . Considering Neotell , but from what i can gather so far , their not much better ? I dabble in the occasional MMO , WoW , AoC ... so far i've been able to play using Iburst (To a certain extent) . Any comments on Neotell's performance related to online gaming ?

not sure about neotel, but when 'on trips' i get about 600ms latency on wow using 3g or sometimes even just gprs using a Nokia N70... so why not consider that?

If you have neotel in your area it should be better than ibubble because Neotel is unshaped while ibubble is heavily shaped.

I am with Neotel and i curse the day day i heard of neotel.
I had such high expectations..Just looking at the device broke
my heart...I feel Neotel could have selected a better range of phones.
One big mistake they made was not having their own chain stores in malls.
Instead they opted for postnet who DO NOT care about Neotel at all...
Postnet knows nothing about the product and clearly they are not interested.
Neotel you can do much better...

Using Edge / HSDHC Dial-up on my mobile phone I get the same ping to the WoW EU servers as I used to get on ADSL 4mb.. Obviously not as stable, especially if one of the CellC idiots steps on one of their "massive" bandwidth pipes... (I wouldn't recommend it though - they're more useless than anyone else, believe me.)

So for those type of games Neotel should be ok, but for you, only you and nobody else - as their crappy, overpriced and sub-standard hardware doesn't have an Ethernet port - unless you want to do internet connection sharing. In that case I suggest praying that all goes well and flawless - pray hard.

FPS games like Counter-Strike, Battlefield 2 etc will not be very playable due to high wireless pings.

re: online gaming

Hi

I don't think it's going to be able to compete with ADSL on latency for gaming. I tried logging into some of the steam games the other night. standard icmp pings are at best 150ms. this however isn't fixed and can (and does) increase with usage.

EVDO 1x isn't really usable for latency-sensitive gaming, although ssh and other latency sensitive TCP seems fine.

Txh for the the advice & tips guys ... guess i'll steer clear of them for the time being ... sigh ... stupid iburst :(

Good to hear some feedback :)

Puzzling though that you used the  emoticon to head your post  ;) :p

Not really much feedback is it? Give some examples of your problems?
The Postnet thing isn't much of a problem since you can just phone Neotell and they will deliver to your door...

So, Neotel won't be good for gaming?

I mean, I want it to play BF2 and COD4 locally...

I tried playing crysis with neotel on a local server and i can gaurantee you won't play for long, the pings are not just high, but extremely inconsistant and you often get ping spikes up to 2000ms. This makes it look like all the other players can teleport around the map as they are in one place at one moment then a ping spike occurs and they vanish and appear in a different place.

Oh boy...

What about when they release CDMA2000 1x-EvDO ? I don't know much about it but one of their salesmen that came to our company boasted that it would have an 1.8MBS upload speed..........
