Neotel piggyback policy the answer?

Although Neotel as an alternative to Telkom has been welcomed, it doesn’t quite offer all the answers

After all those years .. we still dont have an alternative Fixed telecoms provider.

What we do have is another experimental business setup, drawing its funding from SA consumers..

Neotel was given license to provide FIXED telecommunication alternative. And we have not seen any of that yet...

Hmm but as what cost (to the consumer) ? Shared infrastructure, shared pricing policy ?

The difference so far is that Seacom seem to actually know what they are doing! .. and are on schedule. We shall see in the next two months. And if Seacom go live on time and offer the prices they advertised, then it will be the fault of the service providers if those prices are not passed on.

Hmmm, I think the word, blessed, may be a slight overstatement.

While Neotel don't offer hunting lines, to my knowledge they also don't (currently) offer extensions either, i.e. 2 phones in one house with the same number, so you can have one in your bedroom and one in a lounge for instance.

Hopefully the above will also be resolved when the resolve the hunting lines and various other issues.

Piggyback? Maybe Neotel could start by catering for SIMULTANEOUS voice and data in a SOHO environment - presently its either Voice or Data, but not together. This discourages numerous users from signing up with Neotel.

Neotel have WiMax - this should easily enable voice & data in a SOHO. Their CDMA EVDO network carries voice - this is also a broadband technology - so they definitely have the means to provide the service.

The lack of line hunting, which Kee says will be solved “within the next few months”, means that a business with a PABX still has to rent Telkom lines for incoming calls.

IMO further evidence that NeoGhost has its appendages stuck up its arse, i.e. NeoGhost is not in touch with its customers' requirements and does not listen to customers to its own detriment.
