damn, just the opening hello noobs, screams "Help I am just talking a load of crap and can't help myself!" 20mb/s 30c/mb also sounds highly unlikely! But if in the likelihood that he is correct and that his source was, uhm a reliable one, and also to cover me from a legal perspective, that would be insane who would neotel be targeting?

I think I'll go with MrG and Ass_Sazin' on this one and be cautious.

I suppose it's the first link we've had (sorta) with neotel and their pricing so it could be true. Would be utterly pointless though as nobody would swap to them. I can say for my company that we certainly wouldn't.

I think I'll keep this filed as "tenuous".
 
Waiting 6 months for service from telkom vs paying 30c / MB to get the line installed within a week. :D

Come on people, Neotel will do the same as Cell C. They will not start a pricewar (as stated by the CEO). They will be happy to keep the price as high as possible and make a big profit on a small customer base. Their pricing strategy will be as follows: Charge 5 - 10% less than Telkom.

I wish I am wrong, but this is what I predict. :(
 
Yup definitely on the spot there Tarzan. there's no incentives for them to drop prices as demand for telecoms services is relatively high. The least they can do though is to offer much better customer service and response times to fix faults.
 
Imagine how fast I will go through one gig with a 20mb/s connection. No thanks!!!!!!!!!!.

Telkom still controls prices at this point, but I do think once SAT-3 becomes regulated, providers will be forced to drop prices dramatically. At the moment nobody's really got a choice but to pay the high prices, but when ISPs get the power to self-provide people will vote with their feet.

:mad: I hate this analogy.... Just because your car goes 220 do you always have to drive at 220?

Say it currently takes you 30 days to download 10 gigs, now you can get your 10 gigs 20 times faster, it doesn't mean you then need to then keep on downloading.

Yes you should be able to but these statements make the companies think we don't want faster internet, I for one will be very happy with 20mb/s... very very happy...

When I upload my work instead of taking 5 minutes it will take seconds, great gives me more time to have fun instead of watching something upload.

Not everyone uses internet for P2P now.
 
speculation is the best thing people do on this forum.

i suggest no-one get upset about speculated prices.

specially from someone willing to take it for the team.....sounds like she would of said anything to get some action.

Well I understand where you coming from but still, I have a problem with being limited because its plain wrong to supply a service that would cost your virtually your life to use as you wish.

Im talking purely internet here, not only this but other online services as well. Take 3g TV for example, I couldn't watch sky news headlines for just 10 minutes a day, they would hardly get to the sports section :/ yet thats what their service allows you unless you pay over and above.
 
oh no , seems we have another situation like our cell network providers, we all thought, Cell C new kid on the block = cheaper cell rates. But yeah, they started raping the consumer as well (is that raping or ripping , or both) . seems Neotel may be more interested in ripping us off than actually stealing numbers from Telkom
 
A post by wickedweasel, think when he was advertising his uncapped packages for his company, says that they're trying to get a deal with Neotel, 3gigs for R159

That sounds a bit cheaper than 30c per meg doesnt it? :P
Lets rip on Neotel once it actually starts to provide us with ripping/raping services :D

3gigs for R159 aint bad if it's true. But hope its not compensated by a huge installation fee or something. Ye I guess we just have to wait and see as you said Nameite :)
 
Well in that other thread, an ISP mentioned they are discussing with Neotel to offer 3Gb for R159 p/m.

So it's almost confirmed. Neotel won't affect the market by much as Paris has said.

They still have to use Telkom IPConnect to provide the connection to the customer.

That said, though, don't they have a clause in their license that lets them use Telkom infrastructure? Does that only apply if they're providing services direct, not through an ISP?
 
Think they will only start providing directly when they have enough employees.
So far they got like 40 of them, how many trained ones I dunno, but my info could be out dated.

Imagine 40 techies out to service the whole country, thats worse than telkom :P
 
R159 for 3g wholesale ? then there will no impact on the retail market sadly but predictably...
