Received a SMS this morning that there is now Neotel Voice service in my area and I must phone their office for more detail. This was clearly unsolicited as I NEVER ask them them to send me any marketing information. Is this not against the law or something?

@ Neotel - Spamming is a very bad marketing strategy. I will never do business with SPAMMERS!

Did you not contact them before and enquired about if you have coverage?
I know they take all your details and say that they will contact you when coverage is available.... I wish I was as lucky as you....

No, I never did.

I live on a farm and I doubt that I have coverage. I think they just took a chance.

By asking clients to phone neotel, they're probably giving more business to telkom (i.e. call charges). And it's usually a pointless call because neotel has no coverage anywhere.

I also received this SMS, also have never contacted Neotel.
I get alot of spam unfortunately, so I'm used to it :/

Hi please post the number this was sent from. If it is from a WASP member they have to disclose the source of their database. Some companies buy databases for marketing purposes.

Yes, I know.... but whose are not respectable companies.... surly Neotel do not want to be associated with them:rolleyes:

The original number in the SMS, 0861911832, is not a Neotel number is it? Called it and it belongs to TSA Support Line. Not sure who they are. Called the number again & got through to Samsung.

I also got the message. Neotel has very poor service and are certainly desperate to do this. I have it from a pretty reliable source reselling their service that up to 2 weeks ago Neotel had only signed up just over 1200 clients ( Private ). Very poor for a business that size that is supposed to be so great and is the so called saviour for SA telecoms. They have now been operating in SA for over 3 years. Normal commercial has been up for 7 or 8 months if not longer. Private about 6 months. At this rate it will take them 50 years to get 90 000 users to subscribe to their service. Telkom has just under 5 mil subscribers and their services are improving daily. They also offer wimax and many other new services that will take Neotel many years to catch up on and Telkom are honest. Neotel as has been seen from numerous reports has not disclosed many things, one being deposits for services. the cost of their services is also about 40% more expensive than Telkom. Read the fine print carefully.

Hi. Number belongs to

Name: FoneWorx (Pty) Ltd
Telephone: 011 293 0000
http://www.foneworx.co.za

There a member of WASPA so you can lodge a complaint if they do not disclose the source of your number. As I'm in the industry, it would be unwise/unprofessional for me to make any comments about this company.

Do follow up with them - send email. I was recently spammed by a different WASP and turned out their client had purchased a 2yr old database ... I'm no lawyer but they broke a couple of laws on that one.

Foneworx is a Samsung partner and as far as I know, Neotel does not market using SMS.
If you have watched carefully, Neotel's marketing methods are very low key and very focused.

I spoke to their PR person and she indicated that Neotel does not SMS customer (unsolicited).
