This is for Telkom's eyes only ;)

Telkom, now you have a fantastic opportunity to introduce the data packages only and put Neotel out of business.

ADSL still rules in South Africa.

30gigs data only for R699.00 including rental. :D

Sure, but .. what's the business case?

ADSL with adsl line rental and telephone line rental times by the 4.5 million ADSL users = a lot of money. [ http://www.adslsouthafrica.co.za/Internet user base grows in 2008.htm ] (I don't know how accurate that figure is)

I'm going to use 2 million as the figure.

So .. lets break that into figures : R124.20 (Residential Telephone Rental) * 2 million = 248,400,000.
So, that's a potential R248 million rand loss (Assuming 100% uptake).

So, for telkom to even consider dropping line rental, the competition must be ripping into them for at least 240 million rand.

So, you'd be better off encouraging the competition for now ...

Competition? What competition? You mean Neotel? You really think that at this stage Neotel is any competition to Telkom? Neotel gets what Telkom doesn't want.

ADSL still the best option for "broadband". (African broadband I mean)

I really thought that Neotel was going to be the Messiah of Telecommunications in South Africa lol .. they are running alongside Telkom.

We didn't need another Telkom, we needed new ideas, new technology, new equipment, real competition and what did we get? A joke.

Neotel is no match for Telkom. I don't like Telkom but I will keep on supporting them until we have real competition. I will keep on manifesting my unhappiness against a company that promised so much and delivered nothing.

I am a total ignoramus about these things, so am looking for advice on the best options for a 1-2G package, cheapest and easiest to use (no technical knowledge!), combined with some form of voice service (telkom landline or skype), for a student. How would Neotel feature? Bear in mind that we don't know what modems to buy, how to monitor and fix problems, etc. This is for rondebosch, Cape Town.
Can you help?

If you have no technical knowledge, and need access at the moment, try another Thread....

This one is overloaded, and slow, and has issues and well, you you will not get a answer on the issue.

Neotel will kill telkom in the end, lets face it.... Go read their website about when they will introduce broadband,,, and again, all in all i pay (in total) bout 700 rand a month for 5GB cap 368kbps line,,, or i could pay R999 for uncapped 2MB line - friggen UNCAPPED, thats the dream lol,,, but i dont have coverage grrr,,,, they are laying down those orange pipe thingies 2 roads away,,, but I dont have friggen coverage,,, i cry at night

Read the forums about the "friggen UNCAPPED" as you put it.

Guaranteed for 7 days, after that, back to dial up speeds :D

And btw, you are "friggen" lucky that you only cry at night, because after joining Neotel, you will be crying 24/7 :D

Yeah, 2MB uncapped is sweet, but you'll never get 2MB (more like 512kb) and the quality of your connection will vary quite drastically. Neotel's support really sucks. They provide a service to residential users (who are normally at work during office hours), yet their technical support is not available after hours (the call center is nothing more than a glorified voice mail system - please leave your number and we'll call you back).

Despite my problems, I have no plans to cancel my Neotel contract. I still have my ADSL and that has minimised the impact of Neotel's stuff ups on my life. I just wanted to let you know that Neotel isn't all its cracked up to be.

Thanks JMRHOWES. YOU replied!?
Anyway, if I had any clue about which thread would be appropriate, I would not have used this one! Where do I go?
Ta.

I have had a PM Message from Neotel today, and call related to HelloPeter

And I still have an issue.

My email to the customer support has still not been read..

My speeds are still slow...

If/Once this is resolved , I will comment.

Lucky you have no coverage, if not you will cry everyday for next 2 years. Don't ask why, check the other threads for details. I am ONE OF THEM.

I was a big fan of neotel, being an It professional I advertised for them before they came on board, telling customers to maybe consider waiting a bit and now I know better, neotel is nevertel, they never deliver, they never listen and they never understand.

1. When will they put plans on the websites of proposed coverage and completion dates?
2. When will they drop the 24 months contract
3. When will they make their devices available for purchase outright at a decent price (ADSL modem price)
4. When will they actually offer products at the right prices, (neoflex is a joke, either you sell speed uncapped or you sell bandwidth. period.)
5. When will they get out of the middle ages and offer voice + data simultaneously, if it means having two antennas then so be it, gone are the old days of dialups when we stopped internet to make phone calls.

oh and one more thing, to download 12gb of data I'm using cybersmart with nightrider, I get over 20gigs per month on it at a very good price.

R259 for initial 3gig plus line
R189 for topup 3 gigs
R25 for nightrider

total R473 for line, 6gigs (30 gigs in nightrider)

and axxess has uncapped satellite at R899 for 384kbps speed but you can get full 4mbps if you have the line from 8pn to 8am.

Neotel, its time to wake up, you're not that much cheaper, your service levels are.. well I'm not covered and can never get even a slightest idea of when I will be.

You can't expect pple to stay hopefull when there is no end in sight.

It kind of an unfair comparison: David and Goliath...

One has had its consumer products in the market for half a century...while the other is still an embryo...

So no contest in my opinion!

I wonder whats more worrying, an evil adult or an evil baby ;)

I hate telkom very very very much, but neotel is offering nothing different, they are just as greedy and evil and probably will be even worse in the future.
We simply have a duopoly where they offered similar things at slightly different prices with a quality differential, in the end we can't really decide what we want based on value for money. Telkom is more expensive at a better quality and neotel is the reverse.

We have to basiclaly decide on the lines of likes and hates, then sorry, I will stick with an enemy that i know well.

axxess offer that package with a 5gb 10 day threshhold (5 + 5 + 5 = 15gb per month)

Neotel offer UNCAPPED (no threshhold at all)
