I do not share your opinion, any measure of competition is a good thing, and Neotel competes effectively with Telkom at a wholesale and corporate services level.

IMHO Neotel should approach ICASA and request that its license be amended by removing the obligation to provide retail services to Joe and Jill Bloggs.

Neotel could then sell off its CDMA network (e.g. to North Korea) or continue running it at a wholesale level with other entities doing battle to survive at the retail end selling access to the CDMA network.

Hasn't it been discussed on this forum that FTTH in South Africa is not feasible due to the population density? I can't remember if it was or not. Anyway i.m.o. the only places fiber could be feasible is in complexes due to only having to run fiber to the complex itself and then using normal LAN technologies to get to the actual home. And I also think Neotel is providing some complexes with fiber. So it might be possible, if FTTH is too expensive, that Neotel couldn't really do much to compete in the fixed line area until LLU? The wireless is another story altogether, I'm not sure if it is the nature if their technology that makes it difficult/too expensive to provide hundreds of users proper simultaneous connections or just them not investing enough...

Point of FTTH is that it runs directly to user, not distribution point. Then it could be called FTTB/FTTN.

Wireless is limited, station has limited throughput and it is shared between all users. Add spectrum limitations on top of that.

Forgot this one.
They have started their fibre offerings, but too late, too late. They should have started this in first place.
 
If I remember correctly, the sno was cobbled together by the government after all the major international players withdrew their tenders due to government interference.
 
Who cares? They put some fibre into the ground & thats not going anywhere regardless of what happens to the company. Win for SA.

On balance I'd prefer if they stay alive though so that they can put more into the ground. Doesn't matter if their consumer offerings suck.
