Neotel's consumer broadband plans explained

Why can't they just leave us all alone get out of the country. They can go to Tim Buk Tu.

"With hindsight, we should have communicated this decision much better"

No DUH?!
Are the marketing and PR bunch at Neotel:
a) All asleep
b) All fired
c) Never hired in the first place
d) On massive hallucinogenic drugs?

I think its the latter

Bunch of whiners...

Jeez what a bunch of rude, ignorant whiners have contributed to this thread. The vitriol is so thick, you could all be Telkom shareholders (perhaps you are, or MTN or Vodacom).

I thought I was difficult, until I read this thread.

Jesus christ - you people really don't deserve competition and through your pig-ignorant remarks, ought to be happy to pay through the nose.

Whilst I can't speak for their whole network, Neotel provides average performance and their pricing (for Wireless Internet) was the best, until Cell C arrived.

Their call rates, especially to mobile phones are also the cheapest in the market (prove me wrong...)

I have to admit that I will probably be leaving Neotel for internet, as soon as Cell C arrives in JNB. But I might just keep them for voice on a pre-paid basis. I wouldn't be leaving because the service is bad, just that there is now something better (which is why Vodacom lost my R389+ per month 13 months ago, when I changed to Neotel)

I don't know what criteria others judge a Telcom provider by, but for me, its price first followed by speed & reliability equally. Neotel had the best price for Wireless Internet, but not anymore.

Gee...pin the tail on the Neotel Shareholder on this page...lol :D

See, really incredibly well thought discourse.

No, I'm not a shareholder. I'm a customer. What about you??

My point - is that constructive criticism is what is required, not the juvenile drivel that has filled most of this post.

One liners contribute nothing.

From which space ship did you fall from? Do you know ANYTHING about Neotel? Clearly not. You probably also think that you are Neotel's only happy customer?

You are wrong. Performance is well below industry standards, for the average Neotel customer. Their pricing was the best before Cell C arrived? You're clearly uninformed. Their pricing has sucked for a long time before Cell C launched HSPA+ services. When Neotel intially launched about 3 years ago, their pricing was decent, in fact it was probably the best at the time. They however haven't changed pricing at all since then, while the rest of the market have been cutting rates. Even Vodacom, MTN and TelkomInternet cut their rates. Neotel's current pricing is ridiculous. iBurst, Screamer Telecoms and countless WISPs out there provide cheaper wireless internet, with better customer service, better internet service, better billing and better support.

You clearly have no idea how terrible the service from Neotel is for the average customer. Browse through the Neotel Subforum to read more "vitriol" as you put it..

I am also a happy customer of Neotel and I am happt with the speed of browsing and downloading/uploading.

They upgraded my connection to WiMax without extra costs and I can still use the Neotel phone when online.

I will upgrade my connection to FTTH / FTTP when they launch the service and if it is not to expensive.

I cant use MTN in Robin Hills where I live and I cant use Vodacom because it will be to expensive for me, the same with Cel C and Virgin Mobile and I don't like Telkom and I know that there will be problems with the ADSL line or telephone line and it can take sometimes a few days or weeks to repair or you battle to get a tech out and I need full speed between office hours and also after hours and with Telkom I need to install a extra telephone line and a ADSL line and pay 2 different companies.

I had Iburst before Neotel and also had great service and speed but I was with a reseller of Iburst and did'nt had problems with the account.

Oh, apologies, I didn't realise there was someone who could speak for the "average Neotel customer". What I wrote & you seem to have missed is that I am clearly speaking to my own experience. Unlike yourself, I cannot speak for everyone.

I don't see the relevance of the remark "You probably also think that you are Neotel's only happy customer?"

Secondly, on pricing, again you seem to have missed I was talking about Wireless Internet, not Wired Internet. Excluding Cell C - which other wireless provider provides better pricing for 5Gigs than Neotel Prime 5G?

Try to be a bit more objective in your responses. Phrases like "their pricing sucks" is completely unhelpful without a context.

What I would like to see is some real debate, not witless statements or remarks about falling out of space-ships. :wtf:

I also wonder on what basis you can set yourself up as spokesman for all Neotel customers? Are you even a customer yourself?

I am a customer, but as I said, I will probably be moving to Cell C when they arrive in JNB because it will be the best deal (unless again, you know better)....

Clearly, my initial response was too tame. Not gonna happen this time around.

Oh, apologies, I didn't realise there was someone who could speak for the "average Neotel customer".

Not someone. Something. It's called the Internet. The collective voice of the world. You don't know about it as yet, coz you've got a terrible Neotel connection to the rest of the World. But don't worry, we forgive you (or do we?). This is what everyone in this thread is talking about (except you of course):

- http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/forumdisplay.php/169-Neotel-NeoConnect-and-NeoFlex
- http://www.google.com/search?q=neotel experience
- http://www.google.com/search?q=neotel fail
- http://www.google.com/search?q=neotel sucks
- http://www.google.com/search?q=neotel is good

(You may want to try the above using a REAL internet connection, otherwise you probably still won't understand what everyone (except you of course) in this thread is talking about )

What I wrote & you seem to have missed is that I am clearly speaking to my own experience. Unlike yourself, I cannot speak for everyone.

Well, if you are so keen on ONLY speaking about your own experience, and only speaking for yourself, then why do you label ALL of us using, and I quote: "bunch of rude, ignorant whiners", "Telkom shareholders" "people really don't deserve competition", "pig-ignorant remarks", "happy to pay through the nose."

I don't see the relevance of the remark "You probably also think that you are Neotel's only happy customer?"

You wouldn't.

Secondly, on pricing, again you seem to have missed I was talking about Wireless Internet, not Wired Internet. Excluding Cell C - which other wireless provider provides better pricing for 5Gigs than Neotel Prime 5G?

Yes I know the difference between wired and wireless, and was speaking speicifically about Wireless. Here is the proof:

iBurst Wireless5:
- 5GB @ R445 (excl. device fee)
- 5GB @ R504 (incl. device fee)
- top up at R59 per GB

Yes before you spit your vomit everywhere, this IS very similar pricing to Neotel. iBurst are much cheaper on the higher-end packages. Neotel pulled their higher packages, so there is nothing to compare to. Topup prices with Neotel are ridiculous at R80 per GB. iBurst top-up rates drop as low as R39 per GB. iBurst customers also get free uncapped bandwidth after hours (12am to 8am)

Neotel NeoConnect Prime 5G:
- 5GB @ R499 (incl. device fee)
- top up at R80 per GB

Screamer Telecoms WiMax
- 5GB at R299 (excl. device cost)
- Device cost R125 over 24 months (R2999 / 24)
- 5GB at R424 (incl. device cost, over 24 months)
- top up at R30 per GB

Telkom Wimax
- R240 per month
- use ANY ADSL ISP for your data (from as low as R15 per GB)
- R240 + R150 = R390 (using Afrihost bandwidth at R29 per GB)

There are also many more WISPs out there - they provide internet using a WiFi connection, and they are cheaper than Neotel. Google it.

Try to be a bit more objective in your responses. Phrases like "their pricing sucks" is completely unhelpful without a context.

Scuse me? You don't have the right to be asking for objectivity.

What I would like to see is some real debate, not witless statements or remarks about falling out of space-ships. :wtf:

You start off by insulting everybody, making references like "bunch of rude, ignorant whiners", "pig-ignorant" and then expect some real debate, and objectivity? You also have the audacity to ask for statements that are "not witless"?? Do us a favour and go jump off a cliff, won't you.

I also wonder on what basis you can set yourself up as spokesman for all Neotel customers?

I did not claim to be a spokesman for anyone, except myself, and my own company. See my signature below for proof.

Are you even a customer yourself?

I am not stupid enough to be a Neotel customer - I failed their most recent tests, quite horribly.
To be honest, I once almost did become a customer when they first launched, but thankfully they stuffed it up. I am grateful for that. Best thing Neotel ever did for me.

I am a customer, but as I said, I will probably be moving to Cell C when they arrive in JNB because it will be the best deal (unless again, you know better)....

Poor you. That explains it all.

Oh, like I said earlier, go jump off a cliff.
