Neotel's first consumer offering reviewed

What I would like to know is if Neotel is in any way connected(financially wise) to Telkom or the Government ?

That is just weird. The device is in Johannesburg but pings to Cape Town is faster?

Me thinks the backbone link between Cape Town and Johannesburg is buggered up (SAT3 is in Cape Town after all).

Question to Neotel: When you roll out in Cape Town and I connect to an overseas server will my traffic flow from Cape Town to Johannesburg back to Cape Town through Sat3 and on to the destination? (the way super wise telscum does it) or will you route traffic from Cape Town directly to the Sat3 station on to the rest of the world?
 
So you got a start neotel, now show us that our faith in you wasn't misplaced.

Eh!? So to JHB it's higher? thats quite strange I have 64k wireless and get 400 ping to int websites...
 
That looks like a bit of an anomaly. Should just be some routing problem on their network or a particularly terrible day to test latency. I doubt the pings would be that high by the commercial launch, they are still testing the network atm.
 
Neotel has provided prices for only one product so far: the NeoConnect Prime 10G, which costs R599/month. The product offers a generous 10GB of data a month, compared with Telkom’s miserly 1GB-3GB/month. There are also free voice minutes and SMSes included in the price. Call rates are generally below Telkom’s and, in some instances, well below. The prices are likely to force Telkom to respond by cutting its prices and improving its broadband products by offering larger bandwidth caps.

Sure it's more generous.

One can hope the Beast takes notice and responds with larger caps and lower prices.

Absolutely no link with Telkom since they are in direct competition with each other. That would be like Vodacom owning MTN :sick:

Transtel and Easitel (Eskom) each had a stake in Neotel in the early days but they were busy disposing of those shares ages ago and I'm pretty sure that this has been completed.
