Neotel's Voice from Within

How sweet, lol

Seriously though, nice to see a company put on a human face once in a while. I'd love to see some pictures of the christmas decorations. :D

A breath of fresh air compared to what we get from Telkom on a daily basis - their call center is the only "face" we ever see and it's ugly.

This is all I get:

The voice from within

My journey at Neotel is only five months old. One would have expected that I would still be in an induction phase and assessing my place in the company. However, it has been a much more exciting journey in a very dynamic environment.

To set the context, I joined Neotel as the Senior OSP Manager in September 06. I have completed my Masters Degree with my dissertation based on “A Strategic Approach in becoming a Global Player in the Communications Market”, I am responsible for the entire outside plant wire-line rollout. This involves linking Neotel POP sites with customers and assist in creating a diverse network. More than 60% of Neotel’s initial capex budget will be spent on OSP, so my team and I have quite a task on my hands.

I made the transition to Neotel for the association with a next generation company that’s changing the landscape of communications in South Africa. Previously, I held an executive position with a very professional company, but chose to become part of a startup company, which is indicative of my aspirations to ensure that the South Africans get the best in what competition has to offer. Since my induction at Neotel, I am extremely impressed with the experienced, highly professional, dedicated, yet friendly work environment.

Over the past months there have been many team engagement activities where the entire staff of the company was given opportunities to interact with the brand on an intellectual and emotive level. Initially, I was surprised at the enthusiasm with which all the teams took up these internal brand promotion activities, but gradually these inter-team events have encouraged positive competition, making for an exciting, cohesive work environment. Of course, leading the team that ‘won’ the first of these activities was an additional incentive in my case.

Ah yes, then the fond memories of the festive season. The emphasis was clearly on the holiday spirit and each team had to try their hand at decorating their workspaces. Ajay, the MD, went around judging each team’s efforts and I can imagine that the effort and innovation brought in by the various teams could not have made his decision very easy. In the end, a simple yet dynamic theme stole the day with a vibrant arrangement of orange and white balloons.

Next on the list was the much awaited year end function. In order to promote the attitude of excelling, rather than comparing and being overly competitive, team configurations were changed, and the nature of the event – a ‘Cook-off’ - caught my (and I suspect, everybody else’s as well) imagination. Each team had to prepare 2 meals from a set menu with chefs from Nando’s invited as facilitators. After devouring our creations, it was time for a little relaxation, and we all took to the pool…….a perfect closure for the summer evening.

The list of team building exercises goes on, but the best part is that many of these activities are initiated, not by HR or Marketing, but by different individuals. For instance, my colleague, Marnus initiated Action Cricket at a social level which has now resulted in our team being entered into the league in a very short space of time. Similarly, I am currently organizing beginners’ golf lessons and am receiving a very enthusiastic response.

As is evident, Neotel places a lot of emphasis on a balanced lifestyle. I have always believed that the recipe to a successful company is a happy, pro-active and productive employee base, and this is definitely being achieved at Neotel.

Having had previous experience in the telecommunications field both in South Africa and Africa, I have no doubts in my mind when I state that although Neotel is a new kid on the block, the latest technology being deployed coupled with the dedication of my colleagues and I, will ensure that we (Neotel) become a very competitive and diverse force to be reckoned with in the near future. We, the Neotel family, consider ourselves honored to witness this start-up company growing to dynamic greatness, and as years pass, I will be able to say with pride that I have been part of dimensioning this network.

I am certainly pleased to have been brought onboard Neotel and together with my colleagues will make Neotel the future of telecom in South Africa.

In case it vanishes again.;)

Seems like all everybody at Neotel ever seems to do is talk talk and more talk.

The only noticeable thing I have seen from them is that international calls that I receive to my cellphone has CLI enabled - I can see the number of the person calling whereas previously it used to show up as private.
