tell me where i am wrong as i am gonna give points

1.both pcs have ethernet/lan adapters on mboard(both work)
2.got lan cable 20m long ,terminated with the cable 8 wire configuration.
3.made it cross over cable to connect directly without hub(i cut 4 wires and crossed them, dont worry they are right i checked)right now its a ethernet cross wire cable.
4plugged it in both pcs,ok lan is now connected at 100 mb/da dd da..ok
5.went into both pcs and set up adapter ip address to blah blah.0.1 and the other to blah blah.0.2.......right.
6.I went to my documents properties and made it shared folder..ok,the other pc also made it shared folder.
7.nothing happened,So i checked cable and it was fine everything was fine.fine fine fine damn net#%^$%@^$^&&$%$%$%#$$@.

Should i go to network wizard toforce a share folder.and to play games via lan

I went to my brother the weekend and set everything up and we lanned just fine with the cable.

But with this 20 m cable i checked continuity and all is fine from both ends of the lan plug.the cable is crossed properly as i have done this a few times with no probs.

Can someone please tell me what i did wrong as i keep on getting disconnects/reconnects and i dont seem to see the other pc shared folders(there is no firewall and all permissions is ticked

Also i did google it with no help..a.a.a.aand please give me the proper steps to set up a good lan with 2 pcs without hub,and i can view files on the other pc and viserversa.

Thank you and $&%&&$#**$*#&*$ this problem

If you have disabled "Use simple file sharing" or something along those lines, re-enable it. I have seen that File Sharing can be enabled when simple sharing is turned on (something about "I understand the risks of enabling sharing on this computer" where you can just click "Just enable file and folder sharing" without using a wizard. If you've already done this, back to the drawing board it seems...

i am still looking at it now and i just cant see the prpblem,my widows is fine kev,I just keep getting da re/dis connects like every 2 seconds.
the adapters are fine as this is 2 new mobos. Both work perfectly

Did you crimp the wires yourself? Recently had issues with that. If the crimping tool is off by a fraction of a mill then the connection is flakey. Sometimes it even passes a test with a LAN cable tester and then still gives shyte. Get different connectors and redo the crimping, ideally with a different tool.

Ok let me see what i can do about new connectors.I cant believe this f@#$#ing thing is giving me so much grief, this is a bad reflection for my new business venture.Sometimes there must always be a gremlin to F$$% things up along the way,I can believe that this can be happening now.
If its a faulty cable i am gonna make geraas at that computer shop.this networking thing is my 4th attempt, this is a first for me to have a problem like this.

let me check again with my mutimeter

Well 8m Down The Cable When I Bend It My Connection Is Stable.so What I Did Was Cut A 30cm Part Of And Rejoined It.works Perfect Now,how Can A Person Make Sure That This Dont Happen Again.well There Is No Way Right.

Don't jam the cable between the door and the door frame.

Also not advisable to join CAT5 cable, as this can cause impedance and interferance on the cable, thus causing errors and latency.

well bobbymac just made me laugh out loud when i read his comment....damn him,but anyway echoza its working fine,i have made a solid join on all 8 and heatshrinked it and closed it up in foil and airconputtyied .All is good and the customer is happy thats all.
