Netbook advice

A hackintoshed netbook is a lovely thing but not the same as an iPad. Although both are great in their own way, iPad is clearly the way for future portable devices.

They do different things. iPad is good for checking things on the go, and media consumption. Eg, if you're standing in a queue you can look at your calendar or email or whatever. You can't really with a netbook

Netbooks are better for content creation. You can run Office, Adobe, or whatever on the iPad.

I've received an interesting offer...
I can get a new Samsung N130 for R2400 or a well-kept second-hand Acer Travelmate 6292 with a docking station for R3500.

Acer has a Core 2 Duo T7300, 2GB RAM, 160HDD, DVD-RW, GMA X3100. Seems the better bet to me, but the res is 1280x800... what do you guys think?

The Acer is definitely a faster and better computer. But not nearly as portable and will have a shorter battery life. It's a tradeoff.

Wouldn't a smartphone like a iPhone/Nexus One accomplish that? Unless man bags are in fashion now?

I don't know about this iPad thing.

I have a Kindle DX, which does what it does really well, better than an iPad ever could, with a battery life of a few weeks.

And I use my Asus 1000HE netbook (340GB 7200rpm, 2GB RAM, Windows 7 Home Premium, 9hr battery life, etc) for serious stuff, MS Office, Adobe Photoshop CS4, etc. I also have an external Blu-ray (R/W) drive for it.

Not sure what I would do with an iPad. It's too big for a paperweight and too light for a doorstop.

Well looks like you're set. An iPhone maybe?

Nope, my Nokia E72 is much better for my purposes.

Did I mention that you can read a Kindle DX in bright sunlight ?

These Apple toys just don't impress me, maybe someday they will produce some useful stuff.
