I've got someone who wants a few netbooks (Acer Aspire One type) but those seem unobtainable (& old). Any recommendations for very small, compact Windows running netbooks?

Why not the nextbook? What are you planning on using it for?Same issue here. I've also been looking for a decent brand (not the 10" Nextbook that Makro sells) and upgraded specs, but it seems it's Ultrabook or nothing these days.

I want something that has an actual hard drive and can run Linux. Python and Golang programming mainly, and should be able to typeset large-ish LaTeX documents relatively quickly.
MicroPoint still has aspire netbooks available

Is Linux absolutely needed? Or are you just being picky![]()
The only reason I still have Windows on my main PC is because of a few games. I would insist on Linux on any "work" or "study" machine.
Not if Windows is the best OS for your computer.
See how well optimised Linux is for a touch screen.
I hate touch screens on a computer.![]()
