Netbook pros and cons

Small device, full HD display and discrete graphics with good battery life, and if they
can fit a DVD-R drive in there, bonus!!! :)

Netbooks will be crushed by ultra capabile smartphones like the Nokia N97. For everything else there is desktops.

This is nice. High res display, reasonably light, NVIDIA discrete graphics. :)
A little outdated but still :)

Nice, if it were'nt for that crazy pricetag!
Reason I grabbed a netbook soon as the 9'' flavour became available was cos portability all of sudden dived from the high-end price category (where it had languished from the beginning, reserved for the elite few that could afford and were prepared to dish out unreasonable amounts of cash for true portability, typically R10K-R25K before netbooks arrived) right down to the other end of the price scale. This was like the gadget freak's dream come true!
So in that context, for me, paying R4500 for the eeePC 900 was an absolute bargain, especially considering it's become the most used pc in my arsenal.
I have absolutely no regrets, and am already planning my next netbook upgrade when sufficient feature improvements justify it.
I'd definitely advise anybody (except Gamers, of course) who's in the market for a portable computer to check out the netbook range before they buy.

was looking at this thread in the hope of seeing someone find and tell us about a bargain. alas - prices are still to expensive.

in the US they're priced reasonably - over here they're still way over compared to regular notebooks.

a buddy in US just recently bought this..

that thing is PACKED with features and the price translates to ~R3700. now THAT is fine.

i don't see why we should be paying almost double that over here for the same spec. pathetic.
