Ok I got a friend whos going to get ADSL, has an xbox and is a anime fan, now he can't afford a HD TV for his xbox and a nice PC, so I thought he should get a netbook, then he can surf the net, connect it up to his xbox for that media center thing, and watch anime in bed, ;)
so what netbook should he get? must have LAN port and WiFi, USB pots and maybe decent HDD space

Asus Eee PC 1201N-PU17-BK 12.1-Inch Intel Atom 330/2GB/250GB/W7HP Netbook Computer

Im getting one from amazon.

X2 what IceQB said. That Asus is the best netbook out right now. If its a bit too expensive then go with another netbook with the Nvidia Ion LE chipset which runs the 9400m. The 11.6" Compaq mini 311 is the runner up to the Asus and is quite a bit cheaper. I am getting one of these when I sell my Macbook.

Nivo @R5699, Sybaritic @R5714 and Vexon @R5610.

I'm still for the HP/Compaq 311 if you can find it on special.

P.S. Get the 1201N in Silver if you are going select that route.

JISLAK! what happend to the price of netbooks?!
Ok lets change the topic, whats the best netbook under R2000, and whats the cheapest?

Cheapest netbook is the Acer Aspire One A110L @ R1999 (at Incredible, no less)

Specs:
Intel Atom N270 @ 1.6GHz (single core with hyperthreading)
512MB DDR2 RAM
8GB Solid-state drive
8.9" LED-backlit LCD @ 1024 x 600
Wifi (Atheros :D )
Card-readers
3 x USB
Webcam
3-cell battery
Acer's Linpus Linux Lite

I also have one of these; it has served me very well; still use it regularly. It weighs 0.99kg, so it's super light. Regardless of what people tell you, 512MB RAM is enough for netbook-usage; browsing, music, etc.

The downside to this netbook is the entry-level SSD; it's quite slow. However, it's still SSD, so you have only one moving part in your machine: the CPU fan. This makes for a very robust little machine!

The Acer Linpus Linux Lite is decent. But if you like a little more (applications and support-wise) you could do what I did: install Ubuntu and never look back :)

I use the EXT2 filesystem with a few custom mount options, and it does the job really well. However, even the default install runs well (I can run full desktop effects and don't really find it to be slow at all, especially since the Intel graphics drivers were fixed).

XP also runs very well if you install Flashfire.

All-in-all, well worth the R1999!

Ok thanks sn3rd sounds good, But I would have to try and install XP on their so he can use the xbox media center thingy.....

You would need more drive space as well as running windows media center edition. TVersity or whatever the decoding app would not run on a netbook that's for sure.

Hey dude, selling my Compaq mini 110c for 2600. PM me if you are interested. Its a 10.1" with 160 gig hdd, running xp sp3 and also netbook remix. Wifi, gig ram etc. Selling it cos i am keen to get the ipad when its out. Machine still has about 6 months left on warranty, maybe a bit more. Also has a 6 cell battery, so lasts quite long. It has an Atom 1.6.

Samsung N130 (just read about it in PC Format 10 minutes ago :p), 10.2" screen, standard specs for R3000-ish. Doesn't sound bad.

Ideally, if your friend needs HD video, he's going to need something that has nVidia Ion. The Intel 945GSE doesn't handle h264 very well.

Thanks for the info guys, but hes not interested anymore, just wants a BIIIIG TV!
