Hi Guys.

I'm busy looking at getting a netbook with Windows 7 Starter or Windows XP Home.
Which one would you go for?

Regards

Itai

I use windows 7 on it and it runs lekka. Xp looks horrid and does not run as well in my opinion :D.

Which video chipset?

If it's GMA 500, then consider Win 7 because Intel hasn't released the proper drivers to do full 1080p h.264/VC-1 playback on the chipset in Win XP. This seems to work in Win7. GMA 500 equals Tegra in 1080p playback with the right drivers.

I use Ubuntu 9.10 on my netbook and IMO, it runs better than XP. Can't comment on w7 as I've never seen it.

You should be able to do an in-place Anytime upgrade to Win 7 Home Premium.

But first play with it as is and see how you go.

He never asked about Ubuntu or any other derivative of linux.

Windows 7 imho would be better as the OS scales down well to slower hardware.

I was giving an opinion - do read what I said :wtf:

[and if you're too dof to read, I don't think too much of XP on a netbook.]

XP Starter edition was terrible and very limited. I don't know Win 7 Starter edition, but I do know XP Home and imo I would go for XP home.
If the post regarding the upgrade Win 7 Home Premium is in deed correct you are way better off upgrading to that

I ended up getting the one with Win 7 Starter ... its not bad ... only stupid thing that irritates me is you can't change background ... other than that, it works perfectly ... haven't run into any other limitations yet. The 3 app limit thing is gone.

It's possible to use your internal drive as an external drive with an adapter right? Interested in installing Win 7 Ultimate on my netbook :D

Why would you want to put your internal drive in an external enclosure?
If it is to install or run the Win 7 Ultimate, google and download software in order to install your software via flash drive.
