Decided I'm going to splash on a netbook but I'm not really that tech savvy so don't really know what I'm looking for. I do know I want a decent sized hard drive and a responsive keyboard(pad) because I will be using it to take down alot of notes. Budget : R4000.

Any Idea where's the best place to get hold of either of those?

My friend swears by his Samsung. The model with the built-in 3G will cost a bit more but it's really nice if you are mobile. I recently got a Lenovo Ideapad S10 that I am quite happy with.

I have an Asus 1000HE which I think is better than the others (9.5 hour battery, good audio (for Skype, etc), Atom N280, Turbo mode, easily upgradeable).

I paid R3000 for a demo from B&H, not sure where to get them locally.

Mine is now set up with 2GB RAM, 320GB 7200rpm HD, and Windows 7 Home Premium, works like a charm.

Note that not all of these netbooks have decent sound, I stopped using my MSI U100 because of the poor sound.

I assume all Netbook's have decent wireless but are there any that stand out in terms of wireless performance for DC++ and Internet?

I got the Sammy NC10 with 3G option built in. You should be able to pick them up for around R4k5. I haven't used many netbooks before, but this one works great for what I got it for and it goes forever on the battery.

Most only have WiFi bg, and not N. Some of the ones that have N, only have 2.4GHz N, and not 5GHz. So it is something to look at, if it is important to you.

Not many have built-in 3G, only a handful.

Some have 1366*768 10" screens (HP 51xx, Sony W), but they cost more. It is great to have, because some software will only run properly at 1024*768.

Well anyway... I'll be rolling with the ASUS Eee PC 1201N, and it is something to behold lol. Just a few specs of the top of my head:
12" screen, N spec Wi-Fi, Win 7 Home Premium, Dual Core 1.6GHz Atom, 2GB RAM(upgradable to 8GB) and it's strapped with the ION platform.

P.S. It ain't in SA if anybody is curious and it only goes for $499 on Newegg.

How do you get newegg to send to SA ? Last time I tried they wouldn't.

Also, IMHO a 12" screen doesn't qualify as a netbook.

IMO the ideal is a 1366*768 10.2" screen, etc.

kind 0f stretching to call it a netbook ne?

Yeah lol.

I do my own imports, PM if you are interested.

Well what's stuffed in the netbook is not laptop worthy either.

So 12" would leave one half netbook/netbook then?

The only thing I dislike about Netbooks is the fact that they don't have optical drives :wtf:

Yes, it's a PITA, but you get external slim DVD drives, for when you really need a drive.

I bough an external Blu-ray slim drive on eBay, was a bit expensive but works well.

I assume when you format a Netbook theres a partition which houses the Windows/Linux install files?

I hate Netbooks because they are so small, hard to type on (for me) but they work great with people who do wireless installations.
